scared ya there for a second lol. as nissan has sold tons of the leaf. i agree eletric cars are not for me. as well as hybrids don't pay for themselves eathier you would have to own the thing for 15 years to get any payback on it. why do you think gm stopped making the hybrid malibu it wasnt paying for itself. i kinda like the volt but the dealer said if it wasnt charged up then it only gets 16 mpg now if thats true thats worse mpg than a ford excursion. and they han't released how much it cost to replace the batts in a hybrid if they fail and ot that little eletric motor. and the towing capacity on hybrids is pitifull cause of that eletric motor. clean diesel blows hybrids though the roof in mpg as well as it's nice going from washing dc to new hampshire on a tank of fuel with no stopping to fill up. my jettas doing about 50 mpg in the city and well over 60 mpg on the freeway. i think these eletric cars are a while off they need to figure out how to make em go further and not to mention buidling the inferstructure for em.

Well, the 180 mpg.... what's that with a 120 lb. person?
You put a knuckle dragger like me in there with my size 15 feet, and one northern sasquatch female in the back, if you can stuff her saddlebags in there... I wonder what the mpg would be then. I bet I'd have to scrunch my shoulders together like I'm ashamed of my small tits, and crick my neck, so you could shut the damn door. You kiddin' me? these german fraquaads put a body on a moped... why don't they just design a better rickshaw?

This is all just going in the wrong direction. My first car at 16 was similar to the one in the vid.
'64 Impala, 327 S/S, 4-speed rock crusher, 3:73 posi. It would pop the right front wheel off the ground as you launched. Had an 8-track stereo, and a CB, and I carved all my wimmin's initials on the wooden steering wheel. The street in front of the HS was mostly rubber. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAAZGDY7Fq0

Hog, if you adjust for inflation (use an inflation calculator, like, say, Inflation Calculator | Find US Dollar's Value from 1913-2012), you'll see that $5K in the '80s equals to around $10K now. Add in the fact that cars now have a lot more features than in the '80s, and you have higher car prices now.

Here's that Honda I was talking about: Honda electric car gets 118 mpg, but costs add up - Yahoo! Autos

I like the summation in that article;
Electric vehicles, Toprak said, won't sell en masse until customers know they will ultimately save enough to take a risk on new technology. "You're not buying it to save the trees," Toprak said. "You're buying it to save money for yourself."

I think I'm still going through withdrawals. I sold my Elkie and used the money to help buy the Honda. I liked the idea of 40 mpg when in 2008 the gas went over $5/ gallon. This is the only photo I have of my Elkie on the computer. I have a box of old photos, I always say...one day I'll scan this stuff. hah! This Elkie was 1966 396 S/S Turbo 400, 3:73 posi. I used it to haul my horses, but it also would stick you deep into the seat. ![]()

![]() I bought this for much less than a Hybred, and it gets 38 mpg. The Hybreds get around 55 mpg.an american buying japanese Back in the 80's I had a Nissan Sentra that got 55 mpg on the highway. Seems we are not even keeping up with the past. I guess we now social engineer our cars, .... like the Fiskers on American tax payer money. Too much politics interfering with progress. We need to get all the phuquewads out of the way, and get back to common sense. Then the doors to technology can be open again.

Most 'Japanese' cars are built in the US, whereas most 'US' cars are built in Canada and Mexico.
