Yeah.... cuz flying J's didn't have sit down restaurants BEFORE they changed to Denny's. Oh... you mean PILOT wants to rationalize turning them all into fast food joints?

Won't bother me much. I only stop at J's or Pilots for the coffee (and fast food.) If I want a sit-down meal, I stop at Petro. If I want a decent shower, I stop at Petro or T/A.

But.... I DID like the $6 burger at Denny's. Flying J restaurants were too expensive, and lousy!

They didn't NEED to have a Denny's "fail" to rationalize dumping their restaurants.

I think the Denny's were/are an improvement over the highpriced restaurants Flying J used to have. Let alone the samo-samo buffet every day.

I hate to hear that. No offense meant to your wife or anything.... but, I will NOT eat at a Huddle House. That's at least 3 levels BELOW a Denny's IMHO! Can't say that I am surprised tho. I was surprised when Denny's moved INTO the Pilot/flying J network.

Not defending Denny's. But, IMHO... they are a step above the original Flying J restaurants, STILL two steps below an Iron Skillet, and 3 steps ABOVE a Huddle House.

I guess NONE of them are really good, but I like the Buckhorns at the T/A's or the other one they have... NOT the Country Prides! (they suck.)

IMHO.... Iron Skillets have the best salad bar, and I believe a good salad is key to good health on the road. I also like a good steak (for protein.)

When just "switching out" I like the coffee at "J's" and Pilots... and will take whatever fast food they have for a "get and go." But... if I have time to stop and eat and shower? It HAS to be a Petro or a T/A.

The showers are better. The food is better. The parking is better.

But, I'm just ONE trucker... and these are just MY opinions.

I'd rather eat a cold can of beans than spend money at a Denny's...

You're a LOST cause!

Bet you won't be happy until every truckstop has a Waffle House attached!

Smothered, covered, spattered, and battered! Toilet paper instead of napkins!

That's okay with me. Just park on an offramp while you eat, okay? I'm tired of SOME truckers taking up all the "pull-throughs" meant for us doubles (who can't back into a parking spot) while you eat your beans, potted meat, or whatever!

I am glad to hear that Denny's is moving out of Flying J. They have the worst coffee. I am sitting at a Flying Pilot right now and refused to drink their coffee this morning. I spoke to my waitress and she told me that there have been many complaints about the coffee. I told her that Denny's used to have decent coffee, but it was changed. She verified that they changed it. I had another individual at another Denny's who told me that they haven't changed their blend or brands. I used to like Denny's every now and then for their breakfasts. Now, I can hardly stand to walk through the door. Flying J did have a better restaurant, but I will agree with hobo about Petro being the best and TA is next along the line.

I just remembered about an experience that I had at the Flying J in South Georgia (I-75), exit 4. They also have a Denny's and they could never seem to understand how to cook bacon or sausage. Neither were done. I like my bacon to be crisp as well as my sausage. I wish they would put in a Cracker Barrel or something else that has a variety of food and more competitive pricing. At least at Cracker Barrel you get decent helpings. Huddle House might be good for breakfast, but they don't really have vegetables other than hashbrowns. I like to have veggie's with at least one meal per day. Salads are good, but there is nothing like turnip greens, pinto beans, green beans and other good veggies. I better stop, I am making myself hungry and I don't want to eat dinner at Denny's. There is an IHop across the street.

I did something out of the ordinary yesterday. I tried a Burger King breakfast. Their big breakfast with pancakes was I think a little better than McDonalds (but not quite real food of course lol). Their coffee is much, much better than it used to be. They're boasting that they're serving "Seattle's Best" coffee now and the cup I had was very good. Of course I might have just gotten lucky.
