I was on I-20 just east of Birmingham in the construction zone (where the speed limit is 55 and trucks use the left lane). I always do the speed limit in construction areas, whether there's workers present or not. So, I'm putting along and notice a car REALLY slowly passing me on the right (he's maybe 1mph faster, if that). Behind him is a full-size pickup, right on the cars bumper.
After the car finally gets to where I can see in it, I notice that it's an unmarked cruiser. And, you got it, the pickup is still on the cars tail. As the pickup got to where I could see in it, I see that it's a standard cab (no back seat, period). In the front seat is the driver, 3 small kids and a woman. Ok - this guy's real smart. Well, he becomes an absolute genius. I guess because he's slowed down so much by the big slow truck and the slow car (aka State Trooper), the moment he has enough room (if you call less than a foot in the front and less than a foot in the rear), He makes his move and whips between me and the cruiser and guns the engine. The pickup hadn't even cleared the front bumper of the cruiser before the disco lights came on. Ya - he got what he deserves.

Wife and I had something very much like that, coming eastbound off the Atchafalaya Bridge in LA. Station wagon in front of us turned out to be an "unmarked" when a pick-up passed us doing about twice our speed, in the left lane. Just cleared the front bumper of the wagon and the lights came on. That was when we found out it was a trooper. But, the pick-up took off. About a quarter mile later, 3 marked cruisers passed us, and it looked like they had their peddles to the floor. About 4 miles down, RIGHT LANE ONLY, and the pick-up was on it"s side in the median. Cops were still arriving.

You know... That thought DID cross my mind. How do you fit two adults and three child restraints in the front seat of a pickup?????

You made that up just for this post, didn't you....
But, to an observer on the side, that might have been exactly what it looked like.

I watched some foolish young girl on her cellphone blow right past a marked statie who was chilling in the middle lane here. He was doing about 67-68 mph in a 65 and she went past in the left lane doing about 75. As he lighted her and pulled to the shoulder we went past and she was having a serious conniption about it.
