I was thinking about the kids in the pickup too, especially if the cop did the right thing and wouldn't let them continue on until another vehicle arrived to pick the kids up so that they were properly restrained.
Just imagine all the fines (doubled because of the work zone) they could possiblly end up with: speeding, following too close, improper lane change, no turn signals (if they used them, they might have had enough time to flash 1x), wreckless driving, improperly restrained children. Wow - that'd look bad on your MVR.
