It is easy money for the lawyers. Juries are more than willing to beat up on the big bad corporation that took advantage of a little old lady or a soccer mom with children. There are times when a lawsuit is justified, but juries are all too willing to give unreasonable judgements to plaintiff's.

On the flip side there are companies who consistently take shortcuts or cut corners for a few more dollars profit. There needs to be more responsibility with these corporations who skirt the law and rules. I DON'T necessarily think that lawyers need to become involved by filing a lawsuit. If money was not at stake we would not see nearly so many lawsuits.
