"That Old Tattered Flag"
#21
I'm sorry, I just first thought of Ted, but after giving it more thought, Trace is the guy who could hit this out of the park. He has the voice and the musical style for this.
I don't think you'd have to use The Old Rugged Cross as a cover. I look at it as a good theme to start with, and go from there, and let this thing take it's own path. Man, if I wasn't so sick these days, I'd try to work with this.

Hey Hoggie..... you trying to mess with my head???
Trace has the voice (although I might prefer that other guy Travis Tritt. He has a higher range and could really get the high notes with passion.) .... but so does Garry Morris (find me a link.) But, Trace has the "audience." (As does Nugent.) The ONLY problem I have with Nugent doing it, is that he was on that stage with Glenn Beck, Barbara Bachman and probably a bunch of other people that think I'M crazy, and a Liberal POS. On the other hand.... wouldn't it be SWEET when they had to acknowledge the author??

That wasn't Barbara Bachman numbnuts...
That was Janine Turner. Don't worry, before anyone allows you in public...there will have to be an intervention. cof

Okay.... I wasn't really looking. I was watching Ted. I just ASSUMED it was probably Bachman! :lol2: I used to have a real "thing" for Janine Turner and that whole Alaska show she was in. What was the name? Won't BE no "intervention." I aim to prove one can be a patriot without being a Conservative. You just better HOPE they don't give me the microphone! :eek2: :hellno::lol2::lol2:

There are a lot of democrats as well as independents in the Tea Party, and no one questions patriotism of democrats.
But that's getting off track... your song is a beautiful patriotic sentiment. Janine Turner... OMG!!!!!!Northern Exposure.

Gotta go to work now. But, isn't it funny that without "religion" and the belief in God, and all that has happened since, there would BE no song "The Old Rugged Cross," and therefore..... no reference for me to have easily keyed in on to write those words. But, then.... they wouldn't have as much meaning to you, if you didn't HEAR them in the context of your own religious experience. THINGS do happen "in mysterious ways."

Hobo, I think of you as a devout individual with a dark side.
After consuming more pizza and contemplation, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to write the music for your lyrics. ![]() I'm an incorruptible rocker with a strong belief in the uselessness of music theory, and that counts Ted out also. He and I would argue over scales and modes all day, like you have an unreasonable affinity for blaming Bush for everything. I'm just going to keep shooting my video....CAD members, "Where Are They Now?" episode, for my YouTube entry. Featuring Twilight Flyer, a moderator with a larger-than-life ego and an immeasurable self-image, even while wearing tights and a cape. :batman: What's most fascinating is I'm hung up on trying to explain how his wife can be at least 3 points above him on the hott-ness scale. That is the technique I want to master. I'm sitting here peeling pizza cheese off my chin and waiting for Shania to call me back. Some say I'm not actually in touch with reality. ![]() All I really know is, now that you are a songwriter, I imagine you'll have lots of groupies. I hope you'll take advantage of that availability....pluck me a hott one and FedEx her to me.

Hobo,
I worked up some music scores for you, and sent them to your email. I sent the basic melody score, and guitar score. If you have someone in your neighborhood who plays guitar and can do melody, this will help you get started. :guitar: I suggest making this new and fresh. Don't get hung up on the old rugged cross. Think of the talent you want to perform the finished song. You have to consider their personality and style. They are going to re-arrange whatever you give them as well, but you might have a winner.

Ridge...
If Hobo gets "Songwriter of the Year" award at Nashville... He should thank you right up there with his cuzzin Luke, (brother-in law) an' after his dawg Lugnuts. I just wanna be invited so I can get hauled off by Security ......own nashinol TeeVee, for humping Shania's leg...while she beats me with her high heel. As I'm being dragged off, cryin' call me darlin'.... puleeeese... I love you! That ought to one up Kanye West/Taylor Swift moment in history. ![]() [I'll time it right during Hobos speach, or he'll run on for a half hour. That's what friends do for friends]
