So are you saying that he had to aim 12 and a half feet above his targets just to hit them at that distance? WOW..

![]() Yep, have to account for the bullet to do it's natural drop along with the curve of the earth, the wind and that little thing called gravity. Temps also have an effect on the shot itself and the scope so you have to include that into your aim. They use a formula to work it out and they will do it on a calculator by the spotter, sounds like this sniper did the math in his head real quick which they also need to be able to do on the fly. Not an easy shot at all.

I read that he had to shoot 2 1/2 feet to the left of the targets to compensate for the bullet rotating to the right from the rifling in the barrel. I wonder how long till somebody breaks that record?

I'm sure the "volunteer" targets are plentiful. It's just a matter of someone eventually making the shot.

Looking at a muzzle velocity of 3000 feet/second, by the time it's gone a 1000 yards, it's not going that speed anymore. Wind resistance slows it down. So, while it may only drop 137 inches during the first 1000 yards, it may be dropping 170 inches during the second thousand yards. And, well over 200 inches during the third 1000 yards. That 12 feet over the target's head might actually have been 25 or 30 feet. And, the higher the humidity, the greater the loss of speed. When you begin to realize the physics behind it, it makes the shots even more fantastic.
