i just learned to knit this past february. a friend of mine taught me how. i had been looking for a new scarf. then i figured, how hard could it be to just do it myself? it is quite relaxing. :thumbsup:

Here's my sewing machine.
It has one of those round wooden covers with a handle, so this is portable.
It's old, but one of the best made in a non-commercial machine, that sews leather.

I'll make Shania a sexy primitive loincloth buckskin bikini with matching knife sheath for free, if she'll drop the restraining order on me.

I learned to knit a number of years ago, from my mother. None of the fancy things, just the basics. I've been known to make my own stocking caps. Much warmer than anything you buy in a store. Helps keep the brain alert when Ice Fishing, you know...

Latest endeavor in that respect is "Cro-Knitting". Two double ended hooks. And, as far as the quilting, what's your favorite pattern... Log cabin? Bear paw? I've got one I call "TITLE FIGHT". Now, the wife does them all by hand on a quilting frame that would not fit in the cab of a truck. You'd need half of the length of the trailer. (Well, maybe not quite) I use a machine and a hoop to stitch mine. She says that cheating, but I get done with 3 to her one. When I was in the truck, I was making scarves for sale. Didn't sell many at truck stops, but at consignment stores, they were big sellers. Want a challenge? Try knitting with silk thread. Or do a waistband with mono-film, stretch polymar and add beads to it. You know, where you string a couple of hundred beads on it, then go to work. Slip a bead into each stitch. A 2" waistband looks pretty sharp. Wife put it on her sewing dummy and added a skirt to it.

i learned the basics, which is enough for now. i am still working on my scarf, first project. then my daughter wants a scarf too and a friend wants one for christmas. i will make an attempt at a matching hat for my daughter when i am done with her scarf. i have read that silk and cotton are hard to knit with. i have the book "knitting for dummies" for mistakes and how to fix them. knitting with the round needles will be my next challenge when i make the hat.

i have tried quilting. i made a qulit, sewed everything by hand. i mean needle and thread, mind you it took me 7 years to make it. i finally finished when the doc put me on bed rest with one of my pregnancies. i will make a memory quilt. i am going to cut the designs of the kids old t-shirts and put that together, the ones that are my favorites. a simple block pattern should suffice.
