Passport Card
I had to take my wife in today to send in her application for a passport card (only valid for ground & sea travel to a few countries). What really surprised me with it is that they haven't started requiring fingerprinting on the application yet. You'd think that Homeland Security would've wanted that added almost immediately after 9/11.

FWIW . . I'm registered with BNSF and now gain access to their yards with a quick thumb scan. This has really helped to streamline a notoriously screwed up system. It used to take a half hour, or worse with a line, just to get signed in. Now, it's on and off the property in 15 - 20 minutes.
I see no reason why a similar system wouldn't work in an airport.
