Speeding in Wyoming costly for truckers If you haven’t trucked in Wyoming in a while, here’s a heads up.
State law now says the drivers of heavy trucks caught exceeding the speed limit by more than 5 mph will be hit with a $300 surcharge on their speeding tickets. State law raised the amount from $100 to $300 in July 2009, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation. WYDOT says the higher fine applies only to large commercial trucks and not delivery vans, recreational vehicles or pickups pulling trailers. $300 surcharge... Glad I don't go out there. Of course, in an underpowered goverened truck like I'm driving, I'd have trouble getting a speeding ticket in a school zone.

There is a season speed limit of 65 mph for about 50 miles in the Elk Mountain area and justifiably so, since that's where the wind and weather cause road conditions to be the worst. Maybe a slap in the wallet might give the pedal to metal drivers something to think about.

Going down some of those hills, you can get a loaded wheelbarrow over 90. It doesn't take much horsepower, and even a governed truck can roll down those hills. Years ago, I know a driver that had a truck (company) governed at 60, but hit over 120 mph going down one hill. The only place being governed really affects you is going up the hills.
