Now I'm only guessing on the percentages here, seeing how on urban highways about 70% of the four wheelers are commuting and exiting and entering more often, and about the same percentage of big trucks are continuing on through, wouldnt it make more sense for the big trucks to use the Left two lanes, thereby reducing the four wheelers needing to go from the far left lane to the exit? And usually at the last possible moment cutting in front of whoever happens to be there?

I agree 100%. If I'm going straight through a city and there's more than 2 lanes, I tend to stay in the 2nd lane. Of course, if I'm running heavy and can't keep up with the flow of traffic, then I'll move back to the right lane and deal with the on/off traffic so I don't hold people up.

I don't think it matters where you're at. Those 4-wheelers will cross 4 lanes of traffic to exit.

Somebody posted that idea in another thread, some time ago. The smartest thing any fairly flat city could do would be to change the HOV lane(s) to through truck lanes, post them with a minimum speed and enforce the minimum. Imagine how much smoother the traffic might flow in a city like Dallas.

And, the whole problem is that we do not make the rules. If we did, things would be different, and the roads would be safer. I'm glad I'm out of it.
