Your father sounds like many who came to this country for an opportunity, not a handout. We all owe him and others like him our graditude and respect. Unfortunately, there are way too many who come here with their hands out rather than the opportunities this country has offered. There is nothing wrong with some bantering. Regardless of your personal views, I would encourage you and others to watch Obama's actions rather than his words. That goes for members of congress as well. We live in dangerous times. In previous times our enemies have come from outside the country. This is the first time that we see them emerging within our own government leadership.

 

Hate to have to chime in here but Gman had it kinda right. It was right after the election but before he was sworn in. Obama caught some flack about inserting himself into the operations of the office. He responded that he wanted to "be ready to RULE from day one". I have a hint for you.... Presidents lead.... they don't rule. You can make all the excusses you want. The people of the US have elected a person that thinks he needs to RULE over the people. These are the same people that are saying WTF. They now know they have been duped. Watch for a BIG swing in 2010 and watch his ass be voted out in 2012.

 

I heard something yesterday about something else that is in this healthcare bill. It has wording which prohibits any future legislators from changing or revoking their bill in any way. If the bill does pass, and it appears that there is no stopping it. Then it should be challenged on constitutional grounds. There is nothing constitutional about this bill or the last big stimulus tax bill they passed a few months ago. I am surprised that it wasn't challenged. But then, none of those who voted for it bothered to even read it. issedoff:

 

The People also elected many other presidents who were scarey in their own right, Nixon comes to mind, Gerald ford by default, Jimmy Carter, JFK was unable to keep his dick in his pants along with Bill Clinton, and I am quite sure if we could really go back in time before the press got out of control in the days when they were to scared or respectful to report dirt we could dig up all sorts of crap on 80% of the men who have lead/ruled this country. IT IS WHAT IT IS "Perpetual"
The funny thing is humans take words to use at their discretion or to fit their agenda that is simple fact, liberals jump on conservatives when it happens and conservatives jump on liberals when it happens and it can all be traced back to the school yard as that type of behavior is ingrained from childhood and carries on into adulthood.
In a little over two years you guys will have another chance at continuing the process of screwing up our country if the people so choose, what I have witnessed over my 46+ years of life is that we are a country that is wishy washy, a country were hypocrisy runs rampent, and the majority of the people are clueless to the reality of how their government operates. As long as this is the type of country we live in it is a futile cause to think anything good will come out of a new president be them black or white, democrat or republican, male or female, as in the long run the job they do is thankless and they will never be able to make everone happy.
It really is a catch 22 and until I can see true reform and change I will remain Dysenfranchised.

One of the problems we have today and have had for years are those who feel disenfranchised with our current system. Many don't even bother to vote. Rather than getting engaged in the process they don't vote at all. Our government works best when there is parody between the parties. It also works best when we have people who are elected and stay for a shorter time. When there is closer representation between the parties they must work together to get anything done. Having one party in total control doesn't work very well. When the republicans were in control they virtually did nothing. They missed a golden opportunity. Now that the democrats are in power they are taking advantage of the situation by passing every piece of legislation that they have wanted for decades. It will be a mess that will haunt this country for many years. Most younger people have no idea how our government works. I think that is one reason that so many do become disenfranchised. The best thing congress can do is nothing. When they don't do anything they cannot spend any of our money. One thing that we really need is term limits for congress. We need to have new people coming into the office. Once they become entrenched they give themselves all these goodies and put the screws to the American taxpayers. I think that both parties have let the American public down. Just look at how many of them took payoffs to get this latest tax bill passed. Of course, I am talking about the health care bill. We will be soaked for billions of dollars in new taxes because of these payoffs.

It is up to the people of this country to rein in these free spending carpetbaggers. The last thing we need is more taxes, yet there they go spending our money. This country is broke and rather than finding ways to balance the budget they find yet another way to tax us. I think it would be a great idea to cut their pay until they balance the budget. Only when the budget is balanced can they receive a pay raise. When congress gave themselves a 10% pay raise earlier this year and increased their retirement after only one term in office they shirked their responsibilities and showed just how corrupt they have become. It would have been better for the country if they had cut pay during this time of economic difficulty.

Corruption is the biggest problem with these people. It is at all levels of government. They think that they can do what they want without repercussions. It is up to the people to change the way things are done in this country. It is up to the people to hold these people accountable. If you come down to it, the reason things have gotten the way they have is due to the American people. We have allowed it to happen. It is time to become engaged. THROW ALL OF THESE BUMS OUT!!!!! You are assuming, of course, that we will have the opportunity in 2012. I am not totally convinced that we will. At the rate he has taken over this country and is actually "ruling" in just 1 years time...imagine what he will be able to accomplish in another 3 years?

2010 should give us a huge swing back to the center and right, but by then, it'll be interesting to see if it makes any difference.

You know, I look back and compare this president to other recent ones. Bill Clinton? Hated the guy for what he stood for and what he gave away. But no one can make the argument that he was dumb. He wasn't called Slick Willie for nothing.

George Bush? Did some things right, absolutely FUBAR'd some other things. Heart was in the right place most of the time, I think, but he wasn't called The Shrub for nothing. Much too easily manipulated by others and his last few years in office demonstrated that with considerable conviction.

But today's president? I can't think of anyone that even compares. No one comes close to this guy's arrogance, his lust for power, or his intellect. He's smart, he's savvy, and he scares me more than any leader I've ever known. Our consitution hangs by a thread and we are living in a blossoming dictatorship. If you cannot see that then you are part of the problem.

Leaving religion or personal beliefs out of it, you have absolutly NOTHING to look forward to with the direction this country is going. No better way, no better life, no freedom of choice. NOTHING! And no one, not a single liberal or goose-stepping supporter of this president, can come up with anything that benefits them. Oh, it benefits others and will do so at our expense...mine and yours, conservative and liberal. You will feel the same pain, guaranteed. The "told you so" that is coming will be the biggest one in history.

But, putting religion or personal beliefs back into it (since it bears all the relevance in the world to the way I believe), as every day goes by and I see more and more passages in the Bible being borne out as truth, I am more convinced every day that you can number these last few years before He returns on 2 hands. This is not naming a day or claiming to know when He is going to return. It's simple logic and deducaton...if you read the scriptures and believe what they state, you know that not much more has to happen before the time comes. This is what gives me hope. There's a saying that I have loved for a long time.

"I read the book. I know how it ends."

And I thank God every day for that.

Good post, Twilight Flyer. I also question whether we have elected our last president. I have seen a lot of presidents and this guy scares me more than any who came before him. Some of his predecessors have had big egos and some have abused their power to some extent, but this is the first time in history that I can recall that congress was so compliant with a presidents wishes. It is the first time that I can remember when congress and a president have thrown our constitution out the window to achieve power. There have always been a few who would attempt to side step our constitution. This is the first time in our history where congress has collaborated to systematically destroy our country.

I believe that the single thing that disturbs me as much as anything is that Obama and the democrats still have those who support what they are doing, although that group is quickly diminishing as more comes out about what is truly going on. I suppose you can thank our public education system.

Whether you are a believer or not, all you need do is read the Bible to see what is happening that was predicted many centuries ago. Enjoy Christmas. It may be the last time you can freely celebrate a Christian holiday. They have already attempted to take Christ out of the equation and make it a holiday season. Some replace Christ with "x." This is a season to celebrate the birth of Christ. That is why it is called CHRISTMAS!

Gman my daughter is 23 years old and quite into the political scene more so then I have ever been, she is educated and has a grasp on how our government works and she votes just as I have since I turned 18. She believes in King Obama and she has hope for change more then I do. Maybe you will say "I told you so" or maybe not? no one can answer that with any certainity.
The mind set that any one sitting president has the ability to completley throw over our constitution and set up a communist dictatorship is just not realistic in my mind. I will belive it when I see it and then I will join forces with you to stop it. Realisticly it just wont happen, never say never but I was born in Missouri so "Show Me". before I freak out and get grey hairs over it..

TimberWolf, you may be right, nothing can be done to stop or change the course of events.

This rhetoric that there is nothing we can do to stop what is happening is exactly what the progressives want. The truth is they want us to get out of their way, and give up. Over-whelming the system is part of the gameplan. They hope to create so much caos, confusion, and urgency, and end all debate. They create a crisis that doesn't even exist.

As Christians, we are brought up with values, which is based on "real hope." Not some cheap, easy, warm and fuzzy campaign slogan "hope you can believe in." Our hope is only achieved through adversity and finding out who we really are, and recognizing the real source of this hope. We learn we must be positive, and never give up. God did not put us on this earth to fail, but to learn to succeed. We learn to live by our word, reputation, and integrity. We are taught to say what we mean and mean what we say.

We all make mistakes, but that is how we learn and advance to better knowledge. We have to identify and put our mistakes behind us, with all our shortcomings, heartaches and move forward, not allowing ourselves to repete past mistakes. We can't do anything about yesterday, but we can do something about today and tomorrow. Failure is essential to success, but we can't be constant failures. Knowledge is something we learn. Wisdom is applied knowledge through adversity, when we pick up the challenge to move forward. The act of moving forward is done by hope and faith, given by God. Otherwise, you will stay in that low point and be a quitter, and a looser. The basic agenda of the progressives is to make you a quitter, a slave, and accept the nanny state as your entitlement. They will keep you poor, stupid and eventually take away all your rights, even basic human rights.

America itself is hope, because of the Christian values this Country was founded on. Progressives hate America and want to completely change it. If Americans are pushed too far into the corner, we will not roll over and submit. Our history proves that. But I agree, this time in our Nations history is much different. We have been betrayed and lied to by all our leaders, and all are corrupt, as we so plainly see with this insane health bill fraud. We really may be at an impass, where as a Nation, the enevitable is unstoppable. As a Christian, we know the next step in where this is going.

Obama is trying to build his own private army. He made this rather shocking (and chilling) pledge: "We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." Couple this with his ongoing effort to take away your 2nd Amendment Right. Gun sales have skyrocketed since he took office a year ago.

I don't know the outcome, but as a Christian, I do see certain events adding up to an enevitable conclusion, inwhich, this gut feeling that nothing can be done may be exactly right. If this is true, I can accept this with more hope and faith that the outcome will mean a final end to this madness. The level and pace of this insanity is increasing each month that goes by. It may be a matter of time, before things really escalate, making today seem like a sunny day in the park.

 

And that’s the eye opener right there. Talk of the last days has been going on for centuries. I’ve found it a fascinating subject for some 25 plus years now and have done a lot of studying, soul searching, and even praying. And I’ve noticed that for the most part, everything that has come to pass has done so at a snail’s pace. Something here, something there…a possibility here, a possibility there. A lot of the things that have happened, you really have to read and study to see where it fits in to the grand scheme of things. But while it has always made for fascinating study, one never really considered that the Second Coming was anywhere near close.

Until now.

This past year, with just the things we are seeing happen to our own country…I mean, it’s positively mind boggling how fast things are falling into place. 5 years, 10 years tops maybe? Look at our economy, our morals, our government. If one doesn’t believe in Christ, I mean, what do you have? From a purely aethiestic point of view, this country on its current downward spiral, will be a 3rd world country, ripe for tyrannical oppression, in just a couple more years. There is absolutely NO stopping that train.

But if you are a believer? If you know how it will all end?

Makes for lots of peace of mind, let me tell you. I enjoy my life, stay happy and content, but am prepared for difficult times. Because I know that those rough days won’t last forever. I honestly cannot imagine not being a believer. If I had nothing to look forward to, I’d honestly be relocating my family to some high mountain somewhere NOT in this country. It has seriously gotten that bad, and those that are actually paying attention can see it.
