All depends on what YOU want and need. Me personally I could never go without my laptop, a fridge, and satellite radio. I will get a microwave once my boss puts the tripac in.

A list of things to have:
CB Radio
Satellite Radio (I prefer Sirius, but both are pretty much the same now anyway, mostly the same channels, just different channel #'s)
Laptop
Fridge

If you are allowed to have direct wired inverter or have one in truck already:
Microwave

Any chargers for your phone/bluetooth/laptop/etc

TV (Personal preference, me personally I don't care about TV, I have my laptop )
Preferably a TV with a DVD player built in, if not a separate DVD player.

A gaming console is always nice too Xbox/PS/etc

I also have a printer/scanner/copier, comes in very very handy, when I was with swift they have a bad habbit of losing paperwork, so I always scanned a digital copy, and if it got lost I could just re-print and send in.

Also would be good to get some sort of thing to manage your paperwork, I used to have those office style outbox/inbox plastic things, mounted in the truck. It had 3 spots, I used one for current bills, one for bills done that need to be sent in, and the 3rd for misc paperwork.

At this moment I am considering acquiring a laptop stand, since I use my laptop as my GPS and as a notebook.

Eventually I might get a TV, if I do I will also get satellite to go with it.

I just bought a fan yesterday, my AC is broken right now, so I caved in and bought a fan. It isn't all that spectacular, but it really does help. Once I get the AC fixed I will mount the fan over the AC vent so it blows nice cold air all over me .

Now as far as cooking stuff goes, that is up to you. If you like to cook and or don't mind letting stuff cook all day long, then get some of those appliances. I had the 12v oven, it works, but is soo slow. It took over an hour to cook 2 hot pockets, and that is all that fits into it, 2 hot pockets in size. Once I have the spare change, I am going to invest in a camping stove top, and a camping cooking set, simply because they are designed for limited space.

I was researching the watt usage of certain electronics so I could find a power inverter that would run the necessary equipment.

Laptop uses 65 to 90 watts (most are 65)
Small TV with built in DVD uses 44 watts
HP printer/scan/copy uses 8 watts
Direct TV DVR (older unit) uses 60 watts
Universal phone charger uses 4 watts
Small microwave (Walmart) uses 800 watts
Small Refrigerator (Walmart) uses about 400 watts to start and 60 watts to run

I would never need to use everything at the same time, so I could use a good 1500 watt power inverter to run the electronics.

My question is does anyone else use a power inverter to run these household electronics?

Does this tend to drain the batteries?

Unless you plan on running a lot of power tools or something, 1500 should be MORE then enough power for anything you need, even all at once. The volvo I was in before, had a 3000 watt inverter factory installed, and normal use I wouldn't get battery warnings for 24 hours (not starting truck at all). Note that does not include running the microwave though, if I had just driven and shut the truck off, microwave would run for a good 5 min easy before getting battery warnings.

If you get a 1500 or bigger, make sure it is installed by someone who knows what they are doing, if it is not installed properly it can be a big fire hazard.
