Hate to admit, I'm not sure where Effingham IS! Could you give me an interstate and exit number? I've been by Rend Lake many, many times... but never got to stop there.
IF I had a chance to layover in that area, I usually stopped at the T/A in Mount Vernon. The Ryan's has a GREAT steak buffet, or there's a Chili's with good Ribeye steaks AND beer!
You know, Bob?? I'm really GLAD you're here on CAD! You show many of the doubters that it IS possible to enjoy the OTR life! But, like I"ve said.... it AIN'T for "Wusses!"

As I sit looking all around,
Confusion and uncertainty is all I found.
The answers are there,
But I do not know where.
Optimistic and hopeful dreams,
Are all I have so it seems.
The future I do not know,
So all I can do is take it slow.
But I do know it will work out,
So I wait and watch without a doubt.

As Matcat said...in Illinois right where I 70 and I 57 intersect/run together for a bit...truckstop city...7 listed in truckstop guide but think there's more...Petro, Flying J, Pilot, TA...my favorite in the 90's was the Bobber...it's still there just don't seem to get to stop much there anymore...with Pilot's being our fuel stops. Thanks for the other tips on places at Mt Vernon...have to remember them as the Pilot there is also one of our fuel stops.

Ah yes... that explains it. Thanks Mat and Bob. I never got to go across Illinois on I-70. Always came out of the Lou on 64 to Mt. Vernon and then south to Paducah.
That Pilot in Mt. Vernon is new, Bob. A fair amount of parking for a Pilot, and a sit down Denny's INSIDE.
Did I mention also there is a Wally World behind the Ryans?
