Default Hypothetical... what would you do?

What would you do if someone at work told you that another driver came in at the end of his shift smelling like liquor. And that person that told you didn't tell anyone else.

Ask the person who is telling me why they are not telling this to a supervisor.

ask him why he does not invite everyone for an eye opener before work, my feelings would be hurt.

First you need to go straight to a supervisor. At least they/he will know to keep an eye out for this driver. Second you need to try to at least talk to the driver ( the one who may be drinking on the job ) to have first hand knowledge of it. That carries way more clout. There is NO ROOM for that in this industry. There may be one or two that will say you ratted the guy out but there will be WAY more that will support you for doing so.

I was in the position that I had first hand knowledge of this very thing and the supervisor did nothing about it. I went higher up and now BOTH of them are out of a job.

Here is a dime. Now go ahead and drop it on this ass before he kills someone.

This does present a sticky wicket doesn't it.

If this were a "for real" incident, and you failed to approach the "Accused", the "Accused" then goes out and has an accident that involves injury and death, could YOU then be held liable for those injuries and deaths??

Presents some bad possibilites doesn't it.

Can one individual be held accountable for another individuals actions?

The problem I'm having is that I did not witness the incident myself. I was told by someone else who has declined to tell a supervisor, so anything I contribute is complete hearsay. But, the person who told me doesn't have any reason to lie and I have found him to be a trustworthy person. He was even specific to the point that he said the driver smelled like gin, and that the odor was "very strong". An ops guy walked into the office after the driver left and said something about the smell of alcolhol. Again this is all hearsay.

Do you see my conundrum (sp?)?
