Your name on the thread was to make sure you didn't miss it. It looks like it's starting. This country was, and is, far more ready for a woman to be president, than a black man. I expect quite a number of arrests for threatening the life of the president elect, and later the life of the president. And, if someone does go through with it, and Biden becomes president, it will be even worse. A lot of innocent people will die on both sides. TF made a simple statement, but look around you and see just how true it is. You remember what he said?

Interesting. I have said throughout the primary season just the opposite. I believed that America was still so hung up on gender, that they would elect a black MAN before a white WOMAN. Obviously, I was once again right!

But, that doesn't mean there won't be MANY instances of bigotry rearing its ugly head. I predict that in the next 4 years, we as a country will either grow up or blow up! And right now.... I am ready for either as long as it is not the same downward path we have been following.

I have many reservations about Hillary, yet I respect her. But, I don't think she was right for President.... at least not right now. I believe Obama is the right choice for America at THIS time. Things MIGHT get ugly for awhile, but I think we need to face them now.... and head on.

I feel sorry for McCain. I believe his "time" was 2000. He got rick-rolled by Dubya! And the Republicans were so outraged over a sexual dalliance by Clinton that they missed their chance.

Obama is more "centrist" than Hillary was/is. That should bode well for the moderate Republicans. Obama is only half Black (I hate even saying that) and that should keep both white AND black Americans at bay, so to speak.

Dubya claimed to be the "uniter" yet was the most divisive President in modern history. I believe Obama can BE the uniter we need, if people will just give him a chance. He hasn't even taken office yet!

There will be many whites who want to make racist threats or actions against him.... I would like to see more moderate Americans POLICE themselves and stand up for what they want the future of America to be! There will be many Blacks who think they are owed something and that Obama is their saviour. I believe HE will let them know that this is NOT his agenda. And I believe he will not hesitate to ACT against EITHER!

WindWalker was waiting for me to weigh in. I almost didn't. He's right that nothing I can say will make a difference. Not in this country.... and not on this board. But, my best friend is a deep rooted Southern bigot of the highest order, and over the last year, I have seen him struggling with this decision. In the end, he voted Obama in the Primary, and Obama for President.

He has proved me right on both counts, and in so many other ways. I am proud of him. I am not unaware of the problems that face us as a nation, or Obama as President, but... I am more hopefull now than I have been in years. NOT because I am or want our country to become socialist... but, because I want to see a return to a government BY the people and FOR the people.

In the last week, I have heard Republican strategists moaning about how they must return to their "conservative" roots to re-energize their party. They are STILL trying to find a way to regain control of a country that has REJECTED their narrow minded policies. They just don't "get it."

I hope they succeed in marginallizing themselves into oblivion! They will soon become as powerfull as the Libertarians. And with their myopic efforts to consolidate their withering base, they will ensure that America returns to the ideals of a Democracy, where everyone has a vote and a stake in our future.

President Clinton postitioned America in an advantageous trend toward the new millenium. Dubya fumbled the ball. The entire WORLD agrees with this assessment. If it is not too late, I hope and believe that Obama will get us back on track, and that the future of America will be bright, and with it, that of the World.

Give the man a chance. Work WITH him instead of against him. Live your morality within yourselves, and keep it out of my country's politics. This is not Great Britain ruled by the Church of England, this is America.... the land of the free. If you want a country that is run by YOUR rules, MOVE to one! THIS one is "taken."

Can I make it any more clear? Dubya's polling rates prove that his supporters are in the vast minority in America (and, increasingly in his own party.) Obama won the election by what can be considered a landslide. The Youth.... and future.... of our nation voted overwhelmingly for him. And so did MANY white Americans! It is time for the Hitler loving, Swastika wearing Aryan Nationalists to move OUT of this country! We don't NEED them. We never DID!

Obama is not a "saviour." And I'm not sure I believe in one. He is an American who loves his country AND his fellow man, and wants to govern in a way that serves ALL of us. God forbid, if he is shot down literally, I don't know WHO could replace him. But, thank god, it won't be Sarah Palin! The LAST thing we need is another Republican with a morality complex rivalled ONLY by an intelligence deficiency!

 

Actually, "the country" WAS ready for a black man as president. I'm referring, of course, to the MAJORITY that voted for him.

There seems to be a disconnect among a lot of the minority "real Americans" about what "majority" and "democracy" actually mean.

But I guess that's slightly off topic, we were talking about racists, and attacks on the President's life.

Well, there's a couple or more spiffy laws that the current president rammed down our throats that will come in real handy. Warrantless wiretaps, and the suspension of Habeas Corpus. The government can now legally listen in on any and all of our phone conversations, emails, etc., etc. And with no warrants, meaning no oversight, no one can ever even find out who they're wire tapping. Then the plotters or perpetrators can be legally imprisoned for the rest of their lives with no trial.

And if you think this can't happen to "American citizens", then you'd better read your recent history a little more carefully.

Of course, nobody took the da*n commie, socialist, America hating liberals seriously when they were biatchiing that these types of laws and attacks on our Constitution could turn into a real PITA problem.

And for all of those who didn't take it seriously while the current administration was doing it, I think it's called "What goes around, comes around".
