Default Pre Pass

So back when I was OTR we never had Pre-Pass. Now that I am local the weigh station I go across all the time is just now getting it. I have read the website and got a pretty good idea of how it works but my questions to yall that use it everyday is..

Do you get the green light alot or just occasionally?

Does it cost you when you get a green light? How much?

Is it worth it?

Anybody using the fancy pre-pass ezpass all in one unit?

Prepass with the Norpass.

Once you get all your paper work faxed over, Prepass cost us like 13 buck a month and norpass cost nothing. The transponder for Norpass was free and we had them link the two systems together so only on device needed.

I heard people have problems with the blue device(EZpass) but the norpass (it's grey) worked great. If you get the norpass set up first I don't think there is the 50.00 set up charge through prepass. Norpass is only for the Northwest states if you run them.

When I pull oversize even if I get a green I have to pull in. But I do get a green alot. I have the new blue one with Pre pass and ez pass together. No paying any tolls out of pocket for me.

How often you get the green light may have more to do with your carrier's safety record than anything else. Part of what goes into a safety record is the number of passed or failed inspections. If your carrier has had a lot of problems with inspections then you are more likely to be pulled in than if your carrier has had minimal problems with their inspections. I don't know the formula for getting pulled in with pre-pass. You should get more green lights than red. I have used pre-pass but don't know if it is really worth the money. It does keep you out of many weigh stations, but I don't know that it saves you that much time. The only way that it would make much of a difference is if you had a long line going into a weigh station. Most people with whom I have spoken who have it love it.

I timed myself today, from the time I had to start down shifting until I was back to highway speed it was 5 minutes. The same distance would take me less than a minute if I got the "green". I had no idea it took that long.

My safety rating is perfect. Every level 1 I have every had was a sticker affair. Now when I had drivers I had one fail on a Medical Card. But that was over 5 years ago so I think I should be fine.

Gman, does it charge you every time you get the green light or no? I pass this scale 3 or 4 times a day and another one that will likely have it soon another 3 or 4 times as well. I need to know if I should start adjusting my rates up.

Pre-pass used to charge you on a per use system, but now it is a flat rate. I pay $10.49 a month, but it is just for the Pre-Pass only. I only run the Western states and the Southwest and do not need EZ-Pass.

I have my own Prepass and it comes to $9.44 a month and it didn't cost anything to set it up a year ago. Along with the company safety rating they can adjust the percentage of Prepass trucks that get pulled in. They could turn it to 100% percent if they want to and every truck has to go over the scale.

I never had it until I leased on with Landstar, and now that I do, I wouldn't run a truck without it. In the 8 months I've been here, I've gotten a red light once. And they were red lighting everyone. Saves time, saves fuel. Well worth the money.
