Where is the Rev?

One per year? Wow - and I was wondering if I should replace my HP laptop in the truck because it's coming up on it's 3rd year of bouncing around.

I also use HP.
My first laptop was a HP Compaq Presario 2300. It lasted me 4 years, and actually I still have it, and it still works okay, but I doubt I'd get $20 selling it. I bought this new HP Compaq nx 7300 a couple years ago. It's a business class, which they claim has heavier duty innards. I hope I get a few more years out of this. Rev must get pissed at "certain forumites" and beat his keyboard, or download a lot of porn...to go though a laptop a year. ![]() But then he is on the computer...a lot...lots...lotta...

I dunno about you, but my system runs from Sunday evening until Friday evening. During that time, I'm doing my routing, playing the XM (through the computer), playing mp3's, doing my logs, the internet, etc.
I paid about $1,400 for mine new. I guess it'd be classified as an entertainment machine. It has a 17" monitor, dual 80gig drives and Windows XP Media Center. When the time comes, I'll definitely buy another HP laptop. I've also got 4 HP desktop pc's at home. Never had any issues with HP. I think this laptop would be a nice upgrade: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...me=dv7t_series

Are you running a cool pad? I only have the one laptop to do everything. I hook up to cable modem at home, and on the road, I use my sprint cell phone as a modem, and just run my laptop when I'm parked.
I do wanna get that music stand Rev uses in the truck, as a laptop holder. I haven't done that yet, but right now I'm running steel intrastate, and home everyday, so I leave my laptop at home.

I dunno....maybe that music stand is why I go through laptops so quickly, lol.
The first one, a Compaq, the hinges broke, and the screen was starting to go. I yanked the screen off it, and hooked a monitor to it. The second one, a Toshiba, the screen started getting vertical lines running through it, which meant the screen was starting to go. Then the power supply input on the back of the laptop broke, so I couldn't power it anymore. The third one (current one), a Lenovo, was an awesome computer, other than the fact that I've already replaced the hard drive in it once. Once again, it is a screen issue that plagues me. Anyone else seeing a pattern here?

I'd say it's the vibration from the stand killing your machines. I have mine mounted to that homemade table in the sleeper. Also, my laptop is closed up while I'm driving. I'm sure that the 7" touchscreen in the front has definitely saved me from needing a screen/hinges. Maybe invest in a actual mount? Also, if you run your laptop open on the road, check into the screen support, which is basically a thick cable. This will keep the screen from moving around as much.
I don't run a cool pad, but I really should. The fan is starting to act goofy on the laptop - noisy at times, mainly.

That's one of the things I loved about this Lenovo. All the fan vents are on the side rather than the bottom, so air flow is never an issue.

I think that I will go back to IBM when this computer wears out. The hinges on the IBM are metal. My Toshiba has been cracked almost since I purchased it. My niece has one identical to mine and hers is cracked in exactly the same spot.
