Default Computer Problems....

Thought Id throw this out to the Computer Geeks, as I am not, but can fumble my way around.
A few days ago I picked up a spyware virus. This caused havoc with my computer. It was a mess.
I ended up having to use the factory restore disks and restore the computer back to its factory settings, as it appeared when I first got the computer.
Everything came back fine, except what is happening below, and this list is only what Ive discovered so far.
I use Hotmail as my email. I can access my hotmail homepage, and see my inbox and what it contains, however I cannot open any of my emails. Nothing happens when I click on an email. I am not able to access any of the other boxes (sent/junk/etc). I can click onto "new" to send an email but am unable to address the mail or input to any of the fields.
On CAD. Works as before, however, Im unable to add emoticons or the bbcode to my pms/posts. Yes...they are enabled. I can manually type in the bbcode and that works, but the icons above the text box are not functioning as a "shortcut" to the bbcode.
I dont think this is a CAD or Hotmail issue but probably a setting with my computer.
Also, was trying to access mapquest, which all works except the map itself will not load.
Im sure there are other issues, I just havent found them yet.
I use an aircard service throught ATT.
Prior to the virus and the restoring to factory setting of the computer, all was working fine.
So....anybody have suggestions.

Hmmm you may need to download the latest version of Java but I'm not sure honestly.

Did you do a defragment before re-enstalling the software?

Did you do a "wipe clean", where everything was cleaned from the disc??

Did you or do you have Norton Ghost anti-viral software on the bio's??

You might want to stop by Best Buy..or a decent computer repair shop, and have them "wipe" your hard-drive clean, then run Norton Ghost before re-installing windows.

do you know what virus or spyware it was?

if you're so inclined, use the kapersky scanner to determine if your reinstall deleted the virus.

run kapersky first, see what it is, and look for the removal tool if available.

Orangetxguy...The 4 disc set that came with the computer, restores the computer back to factory.
It was formated before the reinstall. If a degrag existed before the reenstall, I cannot answer.
Not quite ready to take it to a computer shop, till I run out of ideas. Most everything regarding the computer seems to be working fine. Just some issues when on the aircard, on line.

vavega. I do not recall what the virus was. I know it was related to ad/spyware.
Ill try the kapersky scanner.

If you're using IE, click on "Tools", "Internet Options", "Security", then check you settings there. If all of your scripting etc, is off, that may be your problem.

Also all of your exceptions that were setup using a firewall will be gone and have to be setup again.

Reb...I looked into internet options/security on IE.
Dont see anything that would effect a change.
But...This is what Im thinking is the problem. Somewhere there is a setting that is not correct. Just not sure where to look.

Also, as LL pointed out about java. I tried to go to java website, typed it into my address bar, and nothing happened, as though I did nothing.
