They have to bring in a special paver for these hill around here (I am an asphalt dump trucker if you did not know) It has to have a winch attatched to the top of the hill to go up or down not to mention the motor has to be on gimbals to ensure proper operation on such a steep hill. It is the same kind of paver they use for racing ovals. Very, very expensive. And public works got all his insurance information.

Judgeing from the first picture, I would say that he was coming down the hill. How did I come up with this, let's see:

1. The tractor is turning right, like he was making a right at the bottom of the hill onto the main road.

2. The sign at the bottom of the street reads "DO NOT ENTER", making it a one way street, the way that the truck is facing.

And, unfortunately, he was not able to move the tandems all the way to the back before trying that.

I once delivered the walls for a "panellized home" (Wausau Homes) to a location where we were supposed to BACK up the hill. In order to get the loads up the hill, there was a D-8 over the top of the hill, as an anchor, with a cable stretched down to a HUGE BACKHOE. Then another cable from the bucket of the backhoe to the back of our trailers. They took us up in "steps" the length that the backhoe could stretch out. But, the tandems on our flatbeds were at the back of the trailer, and the "road" was gravel.

I can imagine that he did not take the time to walk down there and look at the angle he would have to try to clear. If he's never been in a situation like that before, he wouldn't have known. New driver?

I just went over and looked at the intersection and checked my pictures again and he actually bent his front bumper on the drivers side as he was coming down the hill!

I noticed in the pic of the guys standing around by the trailer talking that is obviously common for trucks to have problems there without marylandkw saying so. Also wonder how he missed taking out the power line right above the truck, musta been a close one there.

Take another good look at the pic. The tractor would have passed under it even if it had been lower. It would simply have ridden up and over the top. But, when the front of the trailer was under it, the drives were in a lower position. They came back up when the drives got up to the crown of the road. Once the front of the trailer is by, the lines will simply ride across the top. But, I'll bet he didn't look at that either. He simply got lucky there.
