Default Crazy 4-wheelers

Mentally ill people are everywhere. This was a really scary story for me. And it almost sounds unbeleiveable, but this really happened. Friday night I was driving down Grand Ave. in Grover Beach at about 4 am getting ready to make a delivery to one of my stores on my route. And all of a sudden a jeep going the opposite direction of me, veers into my lane and wants to play chicken with me. And I'm driving a 18-wheeler. I lucklily was only going about 35 mph and stopped just in time to avoid hitting him and went around him. I got about a block down and I see him in my mirror, flashing his lights coming after me heading in the oncoming trafifc lane. Luckily no one was going in that direction. He cuts me off and slams on his brakes, jumps out of his jeep and starts walking up to me all aggro. By now I'm pissed so I set my brakes and I was ready to get out and give him a beat down and he tells me he's a off duty cop. Just then a Grover Beach police cruiser rolls up and the officer runs up and cuffs him. He saw the whole thing. They found out he was just your average garden variety wacko. I don't know if he had a weopon or anything and I was worried he lived around there and I would run into this nutcase again. But they said he was from Walnut Creek on vacation. I'll admit that I thought he was going to kill me and I was really scared. My thanks to the officer who may have saved my life.

I must have a guardian angel to make sure that a cop saw that happen. It sounds crazy huh? I still can't beleive it. I don't know what was going through his mind to pull something like that. I just called the officer who helped me and he said the nut doesn't remember a thing. He's using the insanity defense. They turned him over to mental health services. He apparenlty has a history of doing things like this. I can't beleive DMV would give this guy a drivers license. He better face charges for this or I'll be pissed. I'm thinking of applying for a concealed weopons permit. I'm also buying a taser and some pepper spray.

Might want to not get that weapons permit or at least check with DOT first. No firearms in commerical vehicles. DMV prolly didn't give him a license, he simply swiped a car and took off. Just because DMV won't give you a license doesn't mean you can't drive. Just means your in more trouble if the police stop you and you don't have one. I know people who don't have a license but they know how to drive, they lost it because they skipped out on paying child support or something else stupid and the state took their license.

Thanks for the advice. I thought maybe he could have stolen the jeep, but wasn't for sure. And as for the concealed weopons permit, I guess I'll have to check with the DOT and see. I'm sure the pepper spray and a taser is fine with them though. I hope.

There really, and truly, is NO Federal regulation forbidding hand guns in commercial vehicles.

A LOT of companies pull that one on drivers, telling them that it is against the law - it is NOT. Just the company objecting.

Similarly, there are NO State laws anywhere, specific to only commercial vehicles and firearms. You can carry a concealed weapon on a permit, and you can use it in defense of your life, but only in a state where your permit is recognized. I hold a couple of permits, Florida and Utah, that cover me in 29 states, between them.

(I am a State Registered Firearms Instructor, in Utah, An NRA instructor to pro level, a Utah SWAT Instructor and a retired deputy. )

But, I prefer driving my long time buddy, My Pete.

All this is great advice and much appreciated. I'm looking into it here in California and it's legal to carry a gun, if you have a permit for a concealed weopon in this state. It doesn't say anything about not allowing commercial truck drivers to apply. I'm not sure yet, but I think some cities and counties have different restictions involved.

I've seen a few videos of people getting tazed. Crazy stuff. When I did otr I saw a few lot lizards that deserved to "Ride the Lightning". But now that I run locally the only truck stops out here on the central coast are so small that we don't see any of that prostitution crap.
