But then someone would say that the poor aren't getting their fair share and destroy all the jobs that was created.?

It's hard to keep civil when trying to talk to golfhobo. You should be able to tell, however, that I am making an attempt. It would be much easier to do so if he would quote properly, and not scatter his posts throughout mine, as that irritates me to no end. But, since I know that isn't going to happen, and I've already said everything I plan to in this thread, I will take leave from it, as I do not want to get banned because of something I say to him. Sorry if it ends up making the thread uninteresting.

On another note, I still think it would be a fine addition to the site to have a members-only section where the rules are a little more relaxed, so that we can get into these kind of heated debates without the iron fist hanging over our heads.

I was thinking the same thing and hadn't gotten around to posting.

BUT what Rev. just said in his last post was NOTHING but the truth. I ran a small business for 11 years. I hired in many Min. wage workers and they ALL moved up the "ladder" with time and training. Many of those are still employed in the same industry and are doing well. TWO of them own their own shops and employ others. When it got to a point that these entry level positions cost us more than it was worth we didn't re-fill them. We were a small shop ( average around 40 employees ). It doesn't matter the size of the company, the same rules apply.

When you set a Min. wage then you exclude someone from getting a start. Therefore you increase the number of people that NEED the Goverment to take care of them. You build a lager lower class.

I never ONCE had an entry level employee tell me they were getting screwed. ALL of them were happy to WORK and to learn a skill. It also gave them a "record" or employment history to move on to something else if what they were doing was not for them.

BTW: Those two that started their owe business; Between the two they employee between 30 ands 35 people.

I owned a business for 16 1/2 yrs. I have to agree in principal with what you've said. However, (LOL - I know) I did experience clients that would burn ppl out at min wage; never moving them up or with the intention of doing so.

I'm truly not sure that the answer is, no minimum wage or basis hikes. What I do know is I hate big government with a passion and I hate wealthy people abusers; equally and with conviction.

I also hate those who steal intellectual property for their own benefit.

Here is why the Min Wage is needed ask any CEO of a major COmpany back in the 1890's what he felt a bottom tier worker was worth and they would tell you 15 cents a day. Yes that is when things were alot cheaper but that is why you would see kids as young as 12-13 going to work FULL TIME and dropping out of school to help support their familes.

Minumum wage laws helped us become a better EDUCATED society before they were enacted normally only the upper class would go to past the 8th grade if at all. Companies did not care about workers say a mine collasped Oh well replace all those that were killed and dig it again no attempt for rescue throw the widows and the kids out in the streets. Steel mills were the same way. Why do you think Unions were formed they fought for better working conditions and living conditions in the Company towns. It was nothing for a worker to owe the company more than what he made in wages to the company store since alot of the times they were paid in company Script only accepted there.

Rev here is another tidbit for you you know why CEO's have it so easy getting their pay raised by the Board of Directors every Year. 95% of them sit on other Companies boards and why would they cut their own throat and vote for a pay cut when the guy whose pay they just cut could do the same to him.

Here the Biggest reason why alot of our jobs went overseas WAL-MART. They refuse to allow for inflation in the wholesale prices from their suppliers. They are the reason rubbermaid went into Baukrupcy they wanted a 4 cent increase to cover the rising cost of raw materials and also keep production here in the US. Wal-Mart said either ship the jobs to China or go Bankrupt they do this all the time. Multiple companies have had that happen to them Valsic Pickles among others.

WTF??? Ridge?? I guess I don't understand. Maybe you need to quote the rules for me, as I've seen MUCH worse than this on many threads! I don't know if I'm defending myself or the Rev (heaven forbid  ) but, I just don't see where the 4 alarm FIRE is!

I DID have a response for YOU, and more for the Rev (although it doesn't seem to be sinking in,) but.... I'd rather WITHDRAW than be the cause of a lockdown!

I do respect BOTH of you and I find this thread interesting I will NOT allow personls insults or attacks. Keep it clead and keep it informative.

Actually I would prefer the government not be involved in ANY aspect of business. NO tax breaks, NO bailouts! This whole subprime meltdown really pisses me off. Why is there even talk of taking over loans and offering banks and home builders huge tax breaks? It's called the cycle of business. If you as a business make bad decisions, you get what you ask for. Will the collapse of major lending companies(ie Countrywide) and banks hurt not only the U.S. market but also the world market? Yes. But we'll get through it.

The administration has shown little concern for the consumers caught in all of this, but has shown MUCH concern for big business. If you aren't going to help one then don't help any.

This country has weathered major economic storms before and it can do it again. Sometimes the spoiled people of the U.S. just have to realize that NOT everything is going to be okay all of the time. Yes, things would be hard and people will lose jobs if a major banking collapse is allowed to happen. But NO protection should be granted by our tax dollars to bsinesses who made horrible lending.

Now throw in Bush's "economic stimulus" plan. Just about every economist I've seen or read about has sais this plan will do little if anything to help the economy. Most have said that it would need to be done quarterly for at least a year to have any effect. Personally keep the money if it really isn't going to do anything but run up our deficit. Most people I've talked have said they will use it to pay bills or they'll put it in savings. I for one will stick it in the savings account for a rainy day.
