Well, Texas is known for it's wild animals. Wild women, too. :P
In west Texas, around Guthrie, and Dickens, there are a lot of deer. Some big ones. I got my first buck of the year, last night. A couple miles west of Dickens. There were a bunch of deer in the comedian, grazing in the grass. It looked like there were a couple of 6, or 8 point bucks in the bunch. One of them decided to run across the road. Fatal mistake. I moved over to the left, unto the shoulder, but I felt a couple of thumps, back towards the trailers.
We also have black bucks out in that same area. From what I've heard, they are a breed of antilope. They look like deer, but their horns grow straight up. They also have a black, and white stripe on the bottom of their neck. Of course, we have the wild pigs. Those critters can make a dent. :shock:
I've always heard about Lions, Cougars, etc..in west Texas, but as far as I know, I've never seen any.

What kind of wild animals have yall encountered? Yall ever come across any unusual wild animals?

Hey, when I lived in Corpus Christi, I was visiting a friend over in Portland, which is just north of Corpus, and his ranch bordered the bay marshes. We were hoping to scare up some Alligators, and we kicked up a Black Jaguar.
No joke. :shock:

Out in California, I kicked up Pumas, Brown Bear, and all sorts of fur, scales and feathers on horse back. Animals aren't as spooked by hooves, so they don't expect a predator...like me. :lol: ...ruins their day. :P

I see Black Bear a lot up here in Michigan, and a Wolverine and a Bobcat both one time in my life. Saw a Blackie just a few blocks from my house a few weeks ago. Mostly see them hunting Deer, as I'm in a tree stand, and lots of Coyote. In the U.P. I'll see Wolves.

When I drive OTR...I see Elk, Moose, Antelope, Goats, Mule Deer, WhiteTails,
always makes the trip interesting.

Sometimes just standing outside the truck, I'll see big Deer in front of me. One time I was talking to a State Cop at the back of my rig, and a huge Buck crossed 20 feet in front of us. I begged the Cop to shoot him! :lol:

Yeah, I forgot mention, Elk. I remember driving through Arizona. Deer crossing signs are very common around here. Now, when I saw that Elk crossing sign on I-40, I didnt know what to think. :shock: :P

We have Coyotes running out of our...fields. :shock: :P
I see Bobcats from time to time. Not very often, but we do have them. but when I do see a Bobcat, it takes me a minute to figure out what it was. :lol:

I saw Moose in North Dakota when I use to go on wheat harvest.
It was weird, seeing a Moose for the first time. Just not something I see every day. :lol:

Yeah, way down south, near the border, they have those Jaguarindis, or something. It's some kind of wild cat.

Moose, lots and lots of moose. Cariboo, tons and TONS of cariboo. Elk, same story. We're talking sometimes a hundred or 2 a night.
Big Horn sheep, wolves, black wolf, cougar, lynx, wolverines (ugly bastards), bear, porcupine, mink, bison (buffalo) huge herd every day. Hum... beavers, deer of course, owls, eagles, COLT.... just once though. hahaha

This is my fave moosey buddy, his mom died when he was young we kinda watched him grow up.

They have buffalo in Oklahoma. Or, used to, back in the wooly days of Indian Territory. :P :lol:

Now the Buffalo are at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. :P :lol:

We have lots of local ranchers raising Buffalo here, for the last 50 years anyway. I have a regular diet of Buffalo steaks this year, since I didn't get a Deer.

I drive past this big herd, and it always makes me think of what it must have been like back in the days of the Prairie Life.

Cougars, Panthers, Mountain Lions, Pumas-- thier all the same thing. Just Panther's are Black. Depending on food sources and amount of it, the Cougar or whatever you wan't to call it, also depends on the size of it's terittory.
For Ex: Here in the West TX area we have 2 that are known, and there territory ranges within a hundred miles of Lubbock, so anywhere from Clovis NM, Andrews TX, Amerillo Tx, Big Spring TX, Snyder TX-- these 2 animals will roam.. I find that a bunch of bull crap,, that is alot of land and the dear alone around Dickens can probly feed 10 of them a year..
But none the less that is what I remember when they had found one in lubbock about 15 years ago or so.. And they are know to attack man, even more that the Tigers in other parts of the world.


The Jaguarindis are originaly from Mexico, but have been seen in South Texas.. They are in all aspect's a Jaguar..
