thought I'd try starting a poll?
Which of these would you recommend and why? If not either, please post pictures of YOUR Rigged Laptop Stand/setup?

we have had both
Cyber-Trucker Laptop mount/stand is junk, we have one if the first they sold and are very VERY unhappy with it. all the parts can be had at walmart and at a S/T for less than $60 not the $250 we paid and you have to put it togther too. also with the cyber-trucker you can't use all of your usb, pcmcia, ports and may not be able to use your cd drive. (on the old ones or the NEW & INPROVED). the screen support will not HOLD the screen only keep it from opening to far and it you want to change it you need to bend it. (not something you can do when driving) it you want to get into or out of the passenger seat. or just move it you NEED to use TOOLS. it cut up the sides of my laptop, and burned out the video card on a friends (tray bent and pushed up on the bottom) when i called them about how it wouldn't work in our truck all thay said was "all the parts are in the box YOU need to find a way to make it work" ? well i did after we got more parts at a s/t. we use the ram-mount now and love it. after monuting the base to the seat you can move it up/down turn it to the driver/passenger adjust the screen all with one hand going down the road. it holds the laptop so you can open of close the screen(with the new clips) you can get to all the usb, pcmcia ports and cd drive ALL the time. it's also only $175. just LOOK at both http://www.cybertrucker.com/trucker-workstation.php for $299 and you need tools every time you want to take your laptop in/out or move it. and it doesn't realy HOLD the laptop well or http://www.ram-mount.com/laptop_moun...ptop_desks.htm for $175 and it can be moved ware you want it with one hand. and it realy holds your laptop, you can take the mount off the base turn it upside down shake it and the laptop will still not fall out, and the screen holder will HOLD the screen anyware you want fron full open to closed, and with the new clips you can close the screen without taking the laptop out of it

Flood, I remember your thread over on the "Trucking Products Review"
http://www.classadrivers.com/phpBB2/...ic.php?t=24674 I was in the market and chose the Ram mount myself. I had a hard time choosing, at first. I did notice cyber trucker was saying you might have to "get creative"... and it made my decision easier. I paid more like $250 for mine though. mutter, mutter %4#@

My deal was like your friends then, with screen holder, and cell phone holder, so I don't feel so bad. I paid like 15 or 20 for shipping which made mine seem higher. Got it last February when I bought this new HP lap top. I still want to get the iPod holder. They sell a cup holder too, but that just seems like an accident waiting to happen. Isn't there some law against that?
um..Murphy's Law or something?

yes, I was definately leaning toward the Ram, except it doesn't have any extra 'cooling fans' like the cyber. What I been looking for on Ebay- is the Cyber-trucker laptop-caddy(the top part) the reset just looks like mirror mounting hardware- avail at any truck CB shop.
How about some of the 'homemade' riggings? anyone want to share pictures/ideas?

a laptop, a ipod, a cell phone and a cup holder side by side..... ya i think Murphy's Law would apply very well. we have the power caddy on the front and ues it to hold the note pad, cell and mp3 player

You can get those cooling pads for around 15 bones. I just typed in my browser, and looked at a couple on Amazon. I don't run mine enough to worry about the cooling.
I have a Garmin stand alone I use more for daily routing. I don't care to run my laptop for long periods on 12v. I do use an inverter for off duty times when I may log on longer periods. I've seen some home-made rigs, but you can't hardly beat these for what you can build yourself. I'm a Company driver too, so the idea I can easily install between a KW, or a Pete is a plus for me.

i understand you wanting to keep your laptop as cool as you can this is what we have Targus AWE01 Notebook ChillHub w/ 4-Port Hub http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?...2E0%20Notebook the ram mount will hold this and the laptop and thay can't move. make sure you get the ac powered one, ubs will power a chillpad but over time it is hard on the power chip inside the laptop to keep powering it and what i like about this one is it has a powered 4 port hub in it. |
