Default Have you ever hauled smokes? (cigarettes)

I was just curious about them. I've never hauled them before and heard stories like "as soon as you pick them up you have to drive 200 miles minimum nonstop" and "every time you stop for more than X minutes you must call a toll-free number"

I don't think I'd ever haul those damn things because theives are getting smarter and if they want your truck and cargo, they'll find a way to get it. How much is a truckload of cigs worth anyways? 2-3 mil? I don't care to get hijacked, thank you very much.

Yeah, I hauled a couple of them back at JBHunt. They are high value- monitored loads- you're not suppose to 'stop' with them at all- except on a Company owned 'terminal'-- they constantly monitor you're status- rolling, stopped etc-- real fun to haul-----right, big pain in the rear- for same $$$$ as Ft.Howard toilet paper---just the 'ego' trip of being 'trusted' or privilaged enought to stick your neck out.( also No touch unload) which is a small plus.

 that's funny that you said that. The co. I work for sent me a load of cigs picking up somewhere in Maryland (I can't remember what city, getting old  ) but I told them that I wasn't comfortable hauling those and said it was no problem and sent me to McCool, MD to pick up some toilet paper!

I always hate hauling high value loads. Plain out pain in the butt. I picked up one load and was having "stomach problems" that required frequent restroom stops. The company didn't like the fact that I had to stop within 10 minutes of picking up one load. I told them to come get it if they couldn't deal with me needing so much as use the friggin bathroom.

Now I haul the exact opposite of high value. Most of our loads are shredded paper going to a pulp mill.

I've hauled them from Virginia to Minnesota and the loads are worth LOTS.
They are untaxed and don't have tax stamps on them. I didn't have any of the Regulations you talked about driving 200 miles non-stop or whatever.
Drive as unconspiculously as possible and drive like you're hauling a load of garbage and keep your mouth shut about your load.
I don't think my load had a tracking devise on it but it might have-not sure and they sure didn't tell me about it.
