Kids are soooooo expensive

My daughter is a senior in high school this year. She's already enrolled in a local university majoring in Early Childhood Development. She also is an assistant manager at a Subway. So, I decided to really splurge on her this year for Christmas. I did my shopping for her this morning (online, of course) and got her something I'm sure she'll be able to put to good use:
HP Pavilion dv6500z customizable Notebook PC Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 (2.0 GHz, 512KB+512KB L2 Cache ) 15.4" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800) 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Webcam + Microphone Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support No TV Tuner w/remote control 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery Norton Internet Security(TM) 2007 - 24 Month Subscription System Recovery DVD with Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) Microsoft(R) Works 8.0 HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope I also got her an all-in-one printer (with accessories) and a nice bluetooth mouse. The total was a little over $1,200. Heh - I'll be paying for that gift until next Christmas. Oh well, it's only money and she's definitely worth it and deserves it.

Ya - Vista is definitely a resource hog. I just hope that once they get the first service pack out it'll make it a little more "friendly". I won't even think about installing Vista on my own laptop. In fact, if I could've ordered that machine with XP, I would have.

Seems like you got a good deal on the computer. We have a Macbook, about $1500. One thing about the Mac, it didn't come with all the bundled programs that were useless. It actually came with a lot of things that are "add-ons" on other PCs, like we camera built in and ready to use.
And the memory does go fast, especially when she intstall Itunes and start to download the music and tv shows. I needed a dad like you when I was in high school who would buy me a computer  I can't wait to see what my kids will need for college.
