Default Its official both the house and senate no mexican trucks

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate voted Tuesday to ban Mexican trucks from U.S. roadways, rekindling a more than decade-old trade dispute with Mexico.
By a 74-24 vote, the Senate approved a proposal by Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., prohibiting the Transportation Department from spending money on a North American Free Trade Agreement pilot program giving Mexican trucks greater access to U.S. highways.

The proposal is part of a $106 billion transportation and housing spending bill that the Senate hopes to vote on later this week. The House approved a similar provision to Dorgan's in July as part of its version of the transportation spending bill.

Supporters of Dorgan's amendment argued the trucks are not yet proven safe. Opponents said the U.S. is applying tougher standards to Mexican trucks than to Canadian trucks and failing to live up to its NAFTA obligations.

Until last week, Mexican trucks were restricted to a commercial border zone stretching about 20 miles inside the United States, except in Arizona, where it extended 75 miles. One truck has traveled deep into the U.S. interior as part of the pilot program.

Bills passed due to ignorance and political pandering should be vetoed.

Oh, so 60% of the general public(independent poll results) and bi-partisan lawmakers are ingorant.

Hmmm, I guess we should live in a dictatorship then. The last time I checked, the lawmakers are elected by the people for the people. But Bush has lost all reality with the people. Look no further than the quagmire in Iraq to figure that one out. I can't wait for the loser to leave office.

Hopefully it stays this way and if Bush veto's (and why shouldnt he, hes a lame duck with nothing to loose execept to keep his special intrests happy), then hopefully congress can override his veto. This entire situation, very few people are for it, the will of the people is what should be done, not the will of Bush and special corporate interests.

I caught the tale end of a report this evening about the bill. One Senator said that it was not in the interest of truckers for this bill to fail. HEEEELLLOOOO!!!!!!!!! I wonder what truckers he was talking about? Mexican? It show you how out of touch some of these people are with the voters.

Pretty much. This is the same General Public who can't get enough of Britney Spears and her failed performance at the MTV music video awards.

  Keep your head in the sand. The only one for this stupid program is Bush. A couple of his die hard ass kissers joined the parade, but that's no surprise.

This has nothing to do with illegal immigrants and everything to do with giving jobs to foreign workers. So long as there is at least .00001% unemployment, jobs should not be outsourced to foreign workers.

That quote was referring to the fact that U.S. drivers wont have boundless opportunities run freight into and around Mexico. You couldn't pay me enough money do drive a CMV there. Those crooked cops will be salivating for American drivers. You think lumpers are bad? Wait until you deal with Mexican cops. And no, the Mexican cops don't take com checks.
