ssoutlaw has it right. They can haul a load into the US to say Chicago, but they cannot pickup a load out of Chicago bound for New York so that they can get a backhaul to Mexico out of New York. If they go to Chicago, they either get a backhaul out of there back to Mexico or they deadhead all the way home.
For the record, I ain't worried because my boss refuses to hire a Mexican driver and my wage ain't gonna go down. And just because I'm in a daycab doesn't make me a sissy jwb2021. I have the same license as an OTR driver and go thru the same trials and tribulations as them, my truck is just a tiny bit shorter without the sleeper on it.

If that were true, the Canadians would also be able to haul point to point in the U.S., which they can't.
It is called Cabotage;
Main Entry: cab·o·tage
Pronunciation: 'ka-b&-"täzh
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from caboter to sail along the coast
1 : trade or transport in coastal waters or airspace or between two points within a country
2 : the right to engage in cabotage
and it is illegal for Canadian companies as well as it will be for the Mexicans.
I do believe jwb either got this info from the CB or one of the doom and gloom groups that has popped up in recent weeks. Either way, it isn't true.

Is it really that hard to figure out? American workers vs mexican workers... Mexicans typically compensated significantly less... hmmm.
Maybe you could expound on the virtues of NAFTA for us?
