So Windwalker, what would be the best way for van drivers to secure those rolls for hauling who have not had the pleasure of hauling them but might in the future?? The way you did it, or take it further with securement??

Another thing some van companies are doing is hauling coils on pallets without any securement. I think Covenant is one of the companies. If we did that on a flat bed we would be given a ticket. It would be easy for those coils to tip over and go through the wall of the trailer or cause the trailer to tip over. I saw one a few months ago turned over on my way to the Dallas Truck Show. They had a crane picking up the coils. I don't know that was the reason the truck turned over, but it could have been a contributing factor. I would not haul unsecured coils in a van. :x

One of the very first loads I ever hauled by myself, was paper rolls, from a papercup place in Springfield, Mo. (forget the name) out to El Cajon Ca. They were for paper plates. 8 Rolls, 44k lbs, and while it was the best riding load I've ever hauled...they loaded them staggered, it also felt like one of the heaviest. Factoring in the weight of my w900, and 53' trailer, I was pretty close to 80k. Cajon Pass was a SLOOOOOOOOOOW climb, lol.

Both of them died (one driver was from Iowa, the other Ill.). They are thinking one had medical problems coz he drifted into the opposite lanes.
