What is the purpose of leaving your clearance lights/running lights on while you sleep? I pull into rest areas and see guys running lights on, but they are in the bunk.

I've been told it calls the "lot lizards" over :shock: ...and not to do it.

I've been turming mine off when I go to sleep so no one will bother me!

 

Mostly so that others can see him sitting there. In a truck stop,I dont see why you would need to run your chicken lights. If you need to stop in a pickle park,or some wide spot,I would rather run my lights just so that someone doesnt run into ya,etc..

 

If I have my truck running at night when I'm sleeping, my parking lights are left on. It gives drivers pulling in beside me something to see when they're pulling in, especially if it's raining or snowing.

I've never heard of it as a 'Lot Lizard Mating Call'. The only time they've ever bothered me is if I've been sitting in the front seat when they walk by.

 

i leave mine on so the new drivers or ones that are sleepy have some frame of reference and don't run into me and knock me out of the bed which has happened to many times

 

if my truck is running .....so are my parking lights...... i hate it when in NY it brings attn that i dont want....NO IDLING! :roll:

 

Unless I am parked under a light I leave mine on so drivers who are pulling in or out next to me can easily see my truck.

I left them off 1 time when not parked under a light and had the front of my truck taken off. :roll: :roll:

 

Yep, I've seen that happen!!!

I drove at night as much as possible, so I was parked during the day...didn't need them on, then!!

 

I run my chicken lights anytime i park at night. Keeps me truck and trailer safe from inexperinced and from tired drivers hitting it. There have been many times I have had my tanks scuffed due to not being able to see. I just think it is just the common thing todo.

 

I do it for the same reason, and I apreciate you doing the same, makes it easier for me to get parked, especialy when I'm realy tired, wich is 95% of the time. Never hit anyone but I have realy had to take my time, stop the truck and get out and look when ppl keep thier lights off. Especialy if they have a dark colored trailer

 

When I was eight or so, I noticed this phenomenon while stopped at a rest stop in the middle of the night during a road trip with my family. I mentioned it, and a family discussion ensued. My dad advocated the theory that the lights were left on for visibility, but I knew better.

The lights are left on so the driver can identify, and make his way back to his truck, when he gets up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Of course back then I hadn't read posts about the many uses of milk jugs and Gatorade bottles...
