what a waste of money, sheesh!
To play the devil's advocate, they could have battery problems, or a device in the truck that requires full alternator/battery output, or a sick person inside the cab who needs extra heat that 63 degrees just won't supply. I'm sure there are other things I am not thinking of.

You cats jump to conclusions pretty damn easy... :?

I thought you already made that point in the OP... :?

Are you so certain your conclusions are correct, you need to make them again? Just asking. I'm confused by your post.

Assuming there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, no one sleeping in the bunk (ie co-driver) etc then yes a truck should be shut off while the driver is out of the vehicle.

It is the height of conceit however to try to tell someone when and how they are comfortable in order to get a good nights sleep. Everyone is different. A person from South Florida may find 70-75 the perfect sleeping temp and 60 cold, where as someone from Montana may find 35-40 just right and 62 degrees a bit warm.

I agree with Classic XL; company trucks should be equipped with APU's.

I think that APU's would pay for themselves very quickly.

It is to the company's benefit to reduce unnecessary idling. I know that Idle-Air is available in some places, but at least when I was driving OTR, companies would not pay for the use of it.

Well, I'm glad to hear that; I've been off the road for a couple of years now, so that is one change for the better.

Without meaning to vector the thread too far off topic, I do have a question for anyone who can answer it.

On the IdleAir stations that I've seen, a driver has to pull foreword into them. It seems to me that trying to back out could prove to be a risky venture, with a considerable degree of blind space.

Has anyone had any trouble with that??

Thanks, Useless

Y'all stay safe out there!!

Celadon will pay a portion of the cost of Idle-Air, however, because of the backing-out issue, that's the main reason I don't use it. It's just an accident waiting to happen.

Thanks, Malaki86!!!

I see increasing numbers of trucks parked at the stations, and they can't all be backing into each other, so someone has the whole thing figured out to some degree!!
