Anybody ever get a chance to stop (10 break or 34 reset) close to someplace to wet a line? I would hope to get in a few hours once in a while or on a 34 reset maybe hire a guide to haul me around for a day in his boat.

I read you work 150 days a year now and make 60+K/year.
You feel your job is old and boring and the work is getting too hard. You want an early retirement, and wish to sign on with a National Trucking outfit. I just hope you are not one of these guys who think Trucking will be like a paid RV vacation. You may very well enjoy Trucking, and get to see some Country. But...I don't think you have a realistic picture in your head, how demanding your time/schedule will be, and how exhausted you will feel...when you do have some time off. As to fishing OTR...I suppose it is possible. Expensive...but you sound like that is not an issue. Non-resident license...and locating where to buy one. Forget the guide...they are even tougher to find, and require booking in advance. Your Boss gonna allow you to leave your rig unattended??? I honestly need to wonder, are your going to regret leaving your job early? I realize you need to keep a job, for your wife's insurance. But why Trucking??? You'll work harder, and make a whole lot less money, and instead of working 150 days in a year...you'll be working 150 days in a month. Rev........love the new Av.

Same deal here in Michigan, 24 hr. NR is $7.00.
I think the real trick is being able to get to the location to buy the license. Then being able to park and gain access to fishing areas. Not so easy with an OTR vehicle. Half day Charter is usually $450 per person, and all day Charter is $575 per person, for Trout and Salmon. It's getting tougher fishing most places. Not like the good 'ol days, when you could fish anywhere. Now it is even tough for a local to keep up on when and where to find action. A person who does his homework can make it happen. I'd be happy to help anyone out who wants to fish up my way. I'm personally waiting now for the Lakes to freeze, so I can go Ice Fishing. Nothing going on now, until we see some ice.

Roadhog. your concerns are all valid but I have put a lot of thought into leaving my current job and I am ready for a change and I know trucking is not a traveling vacation and I have read these message boards for about 6 months now so I know its not an easy job. Not sure I will like it but am ready to give it a try as it is something I have had an intrest in for many years. My loose plan is to go otr for 2 years and then there are a lot of local jobs I could get. I'm lucky in that going into it I am in good finaceal shape so if I hate it and can't handle it I can walk away and pursue other intrests.
And if I ever get up your way I might take you up on the fishing offer. Anybody wants to fish in Oklahoma let me know I will take you for crappie or bass. I am pretty much free till I start school in March
