Relax. He's not re-writing history, the Christians are. It's the Winter Solstice Holiday, celebrated by "pagans" for millenia before Christ --- they were happy the sun stopped "disappearing" and saw that it was finally starting to come up earlier each day - which becomes apparent about the 25th.
As it did with other pagan practices, the Christians (who were a practical lot) simply co-opted the holiday for their own purposes. The descriptions of the time of Christ's birth from the New Testament clearly indicate that it didn't happen in the winter. Historicly speaking, you are absolutely correct!! And since Christians are a minority in the world, there are a whole lot of people who don't observe it as a holiday at all. |
