Only for Christians.... you think there may possibly be others here in this society who may be another relgion celebrating a holiday? From November to January 1st there are three major holiday events, including them all with a greeting that is inclusive to all is a bad thing?

Comedian, Dave Attell
From the album "Skanks for the Memories"

I love that guy.

Don't try to rewrite history. The holiday is Christmas, put on the calendar by Christians, for Christians. If the others want their own holiday, they can go get it.

A Christian complaining about OTHERS re-writing history? The Whole Christian religion is a re-write.. Why would Christians be using a calender full of names of other people gods in the first place?

Relax. He's not re-writing history, the Christians are. It's the Winter Solstice Holiday, celebrated by "pagans" for millenia before Christ --- they were happy the sun stopped "disappearing" and saw that it was finally starting to come up earlier each day - which becomes apparent about the 25th.

As it did with other pagan practices, the Christians (who were a practical lot) simply co-opted the holiday for their own purposes. The descriptions of the time of Christ's birth from the New Testament clearly indicate that it didn't happen in the winter. And since Christians are a minority in the world, there are a whole lot of people who don't observe it as a holiday at all.

Still pretty sure the legal name is Christmas.

I used to love egg-nog. But after reading that, I don't know if I can drink it.

Not sure about the practicality of it, but certainly co-opted.

I'm not much for the 'Happy Holidays' and 'Seasons Greetings' stuff, either, though. I'd prefer the greetings to be 'Merry X-Mas Shopping' and 'Happy Indulgence Day.'

It's been interesting watching some get uptight about a tradition belonging to Mithras the last 3-4 years. After all, we should be honest about it- the reason for the season is shopping. Or stealing, as the case may be. (nevermind that it's pretty well established that Jesus was not born on Dec. 25th)

Anyone up for some egg-nog, BTW? :P
