IdleAir

Ok - WTF is up lately with IdleAir? Everytime I park in a truckstop that has IdleAir, I'm pretty much 'pounced' on by those people trying to get me to use the damn thing. It's getting to the point that I'd rather be shooing off the lot lizards - at least they aren't following me trying to explain it to me as I walk to the crapper.
And, ya, I know what it is and have used it a few times. Celadon pays 50% of the fees on it when we use it - but my gawd, I'm not going to use it when it's 65 outside, clear evening and no rain in sight.

I seen an ad for Idleaire one time looking for people to work as a customer service agent to sell/provide services. If I remember correctly a big portion of their pay was based on commission on how many adapters they could sell.

If you park in an idleair spot, that kinda comes with the territory....
Same as if you go to the fuel island, youre expected to buy fuel etc. At the Petro in Perrysburg, OH they came to my truck at least 5 times.

Almost on the level of telemarketers. The one advantage we have here is they can be told to their face what we think of thier sales tactics.I did just that in Madera,Ca. last week after the third try by the same person to get me to shut off my APU and give them money for the same thing my APU does.
Parking is way too short in supply everywhere and, this sham makes it worse.

The back-out parking is the main reason I don't use IdleAire. Not to mention, this time of the year in the south, there's no need for it. Crack the windows a bit and all is well.

There must be a serious need for it,I see these big time freight trucks in lots with thier motors just racing as high as the steeringwheel meat can set it yet,the wheelmeat is in the truck stop for hours while this is going on.Oh BTW sunshine and 65 or so too....

I stopped in at the TA in Santa Rosa, NM a couple of days ago and they now have IdleAire. The Petro in Little Rock also now has IdleAire. :? I think we will all eventually be forced to either pay or get a generator for the truck. It seems as though one state after another is enacting laws preventing idling of trucks. In New York, you are limited to 5 minutes of idle time and some truck stops limit you to 3 hours of parking.
