I was never shut down for anything. But I was able to make it through a Georgia scale at night with malfunctioning upper clearance lamps. Turns out a wire had been severed. Got it fixed at a truckstop the next morning.

got shutdown a few times for over hours and that was before the new HOS.
Not patting myself on my own back but I'm pretty good at talking with DOT and they just told me to go to Such and Such a spot and go to Bed :P

Only been shutdown once. Did a delivery at a Lowes in Billings MT in the early am. Prior to that I did my pretrip, always check the tires, all good.
Pull into scalehouse about 10 or 15 miles down the road and during inspection inspector says to come look at my inside drive fwd tire, Big ole roofing nail in it with air coming out fast. Shutdown until tire gets repaired. DOT says if the nail wasnt in the tire would have had my sticker. Oh well got my sticker about 3 months later in Arkansas.

Once while my truck was in the shop I was driving one of the company's raggedy old Volvos. I got pulled in for a DOT at the New Waverly scale @ the 101 on I-45 north of Houston.
When it came time for the windshield wiper test, I didn't think anything of it because I had used them an hour before. The right one went flying off the truck after about 2 sweeps. We all laughed. The company got a ticket, though. -p.

Kinda OT but your post reminded me of a trip from Madison, Wi to Sioux Falls, SD. Middle of the night had to be in Sioux Falls by 8 am. Driving thru Minneapolis, in a loaner truck, snow and rain start to fall. Wipers on. One wipe right wiper sails off truck and is gone. 40 miles later finally find a truckstop to buy one. Hated the squeek sound but had to live with it for an hour. Laughed most of the night over that one. |
