Default yoopr...yose guys know it's only beginning of Sept....right?

 Every time I see your weather bulletin, it's says low 30's.

We're getting a North wind and it has a raw edge on it already. It was like August was September..and September is October. At this rate we'll have you know what (for keeps) by mid-Oct. for sure.

I'm trying to fish Salmon right now. It gets pretty rough when your snot turns into icicles? I'm breaking out long johns and ...well actually the water is warmer than the air lately...but that isn't saying much.

Our leaves are changing color and dropping for over a week already.

I do like the Fall but I think I missed it.... seems more like Almost Winter.

After living 14 years in Muskegon, what's the problem???

I remember trolling the big pond in my snowmobile suit after those Kings in Sept. Then also leaving other times from the house in shorts, 75 degree's, and once out on the Lake, wearing longies, and gloves because the water temp was 40 degrees.
Don't ya just love it. :P :P

 Am I practicing my Michigan Pastime too early? (sniveling about the cold)
Our summer was only about a month long this year....maybe yoopr's was half that.
4 seasosn here are;
Almost Winter>Winter>Still Winter>Construction.

Ofcourse you remember all that. Our Winter's use to be hard ones, and I have become soft living in the sunbelt, and since I moved back here 6 years ago, the Winter's have been mild in comparison. This year seems more like the old days when we were hammered hard.

Yeah...trolling Salmon in your shorts. That could still happen...if we get our Indian Summer. Our local meteorologist thinks we won't see it this year though...so I guess that is good...whatever he says sucks and the opposite happens.

They're hittin' them Salmon prettty good at the mouth of the Boardman River in Traverse City. I don't fish from boats much. I like getting into the water, right at the mouth of the rivers, or a little further upstream. I like having the river currents to fight too. I don't fish the Boardman River...it's too crowded anymore.

I fish the river out my front door the most. Leland River...it's just a block away. Also in my area, I fish Shalde Creek just 10 miles south, or Crystal River over there in Glen Arbor, before you get to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes.
Back in the day, I use to go as far south as the Betsie River in Frankfort, or the furthest south I went was the Pere Marquette river down at Ludington.

The only thing I ever did out of Muskegon was take the Car Ferry over to Milwaukee. I may do that again to go tour the Beer Brewery's. Did you ever take the Ferry Boat ride?

When I lived there, no ferry.... Was either before my time, or they started back up after I left. 1969 to 1983. I was their when da judge opened up the fishing on the big pond to gill nets, and that pretty much killed the Kings, coho, and lakers back then. Glad they made a come back..

Yes, I had a 16' open bow boat, used it everywhere, Big Lake, small lakes, White Lk, Canada for northern pike & walleye, then it even seen fishing in Florida, even a few miles out into the Atlantic by the Cape for some Shark, then in Galveston Bay in Texas. But Michigan had the most changeable weather where ever I lived. Even took it to the UP several times, mostly in April after Smelt & Perch, but only used the boat for the Perch during the day and did our net brigade at night for the Smelt. God, those where good times.

When you packed, you always brought along from bathing suits/shorts to your snowmobile suit cause ya never knew when it was going to change.

When it was the most peaceful was during the summer, out about 10 to 15 miles trolling for Lakers, Salmon in the big lake. Never knew what you where going to get. Sometimes in the middle of August running thru a run of Kings, double & triple hitters with only me & the wife on board, got interesting...........

But now, when the temps get below 50, and you have a few years on these old bones, give me the south....

It was 38 degrees when I went down to the river this morning. (5am) I hooked a nice male. Kinda small, but it was fun. Still a bit early for Leland.
It warmed up to 42 by the time I came home. (8am) Yoopr probably saw 28 degrees last night.

I'm having another Barn Dance tonight at my Barn. It's gonna be the last one for this year for sure. I'm putting visqueen up around the lower walls to keep the cold breeze from coming through the cracks and making the women turn on their headlights.
It's a party for our Pastor. We're doing what's called Pastor Appreciation Night. Pot luck dinner, and a Country DJ so we'll be Texas 2 steppin' and Line Dancing tonight.

Yeah...I took the Ferry Boat with my Dad back in like 1962 and again a couple years later. They did reopen the Ferry Boat a year or so ago, I don't remember the details.

That was something back when the Indians got the rights to Gill Net. Lot's of 30.06 cal. fire at the boats. They are still given a DNR escort boat much of the time. I won't get into this online that is for sure. It is still a real volitile issue here. There are ongoing disputes all the time.

Volitile wasn't the word for it.... Some of my friends had gun racks on there boats, LOL But a lot of times that was when the Kings where running up the Muskegon channel, and all the Chicago boys thought hey owned the water ways and made there own rules. That was the times I just stayed home on weekends.
I was down south, below Grandhaven when they pulled a 2 mile gillnet out of the lake, sad to see all those fish dead because it was so full the idiots could not haul it in due to so many fish in it.
But didn't know that was still an on-going issue?? Right, don't need to bring up this subject, got my blood boiling back then, and just thinking about it now still does...........
But you could have bought a good 30' + charter boat cheap then???

Jack...an Indian Summer for us is a brief warm spell that can come in the end of September. It will warm up like for a week or two...natures gift to us...since we always get jipped out of much of a Summer up here. It can even come in mid-October. This year it is looking unlikely we will see it at all. If we do...it will be this month and for like maybe an hour...just enough for the sun to peek through one last time, before the IceAge begins.
