Had a rollover in '03, currently unemployed, haven't driven T/T since.
Need 160 hr course, no gov't help , really want to go back OTR,No good local driving gigs here, been driving straight truck since '05. Any advice where to go, who to hook up with. Have a family to support. Thanks

The rollover is old enough that he should not hurt you. There are training programs offered in many states to help the unemployed to get retrained so that they can find employment. You may check your local state employment office to see if they might know of something that could help.

Unfortunately, my state (NY) has $0.00 for training. The fed has money, but that is how I got my CDLA 10 years ago.
And I have been told the fed will only give you $$ once in your lifetime! I was wondering about those training programs with like Schneider/Swift/CRST etc. are worth a shot. ,I'm willing to go with something like these, just need to work...ya know

Since you haven't been driving for almost 10 years you are going to have to start almost all over again, try some of the big Training Truck Companies, I'm sure they can help you in exchange for a small commitment.

If you kept up your CDL A, the process will be much easier. Ten years is a long time to be out of a truck. But, you have at least been driving a straight truck. If you still have the CDL A then you may find one of the training carriers that will put you with a trainer for a few weeks and then cut you loose with your own truck. I would check with CRST, Swift, Millis, Roehl, Covenant, US Xpress and any other carrier who might have a training program.

I'm kinda in the same situation as tikidave54, only I did a career change 18 years ago. Finally let my CDL go in 2005 now I'm wanting to get back into trucking at 61, gotta re-do everything as so much has changed since I stopped driving CDL in 1993. I am going through the County Workforce program in hopes that they will pay for my CDL training at a local school here in the Phoenix area. Will keep you posted on whether that works out...
