I have always used a general lithium based EP grease. I carry a small can with grease in it if I need more, but more importantly, I use a wide putty knife to reapply the grease and put an even coating on the 5th wheel each and every time I drop and hook, or every few days if I am pulling the same trailer. I drop the air bags before backing under a trailer and reinflate them so the grease doesn't get scraped off onto the cat walk. I learned quickly, by driving several years in Alaska, that a properly greased 5th wheel is a good thing.
Now that being said, Lubriplate makes pretty decent 5th wheel plate lube that is aerosol based. It sticks pretty good. My oil dealer handed me a can and asked me to try it. I didn't want to buy any of it, so went back to my standard method. But it does work.

You can also use Lucas oil 5th wheel and slider grease. its about $12 per bottle but one application lasts a long time. Its very slick stuff with the consistency of bearing grease mixed with 80/90 gear oil. After the 1st application just put a little on any dry spots and hook to the next patient. I think its worth it and less messy than using a putty knife or grease gun to spread it! Comes in a bottle with a nozzle like gear lube bottles so u can close it up and not worry about messes in your tool box. Good Luck

As well as applying grease manually every so often, the truck's Groeneveld auto greaser has a couple connections to the 5th wheel plate. A little goose every time it cycles.

I use Chevron arctic rpm grease for the top of the 5th wheel. It's the best grease for landing gears as well, will not go solid at -20. I find out of all the 5th wheel greases I've tried this one will not get all sticky and hard during winter. The worst type of grease to use is a "tacky" type grease. It will make for bad handling.
