Default 13 speed tranny

can anyone tell me if there is a big enough differnce in fuel saving between using a 13 speed as opposed to a 10 speed? we generally run I-10 and I-20 with loads in a dry van weighing average 20,000. average run is 2000 miles. looking for any info why 1 is better for me than the other.

Rear end ratio would have to be factored into the equation. I'd run a ten speed trans in your circumstance, they are more durable (imo) than the 13 and given your weight there's no real need for the extra split.

I'm sorry, did you say 10 speed and durable in one sentence?

Ok, I suppose they are okay. And I don't think I'd go changing them out for the run he describes.

10 speeds being durable has not been my experience. That being said, I am certainly no expert and there must be a reason 89% of all these trucks out here have them. So, I digress...I still prefer the 13.
