Default Anyone run a filtermag?

www.filtermag.com

Neat product, some guys off of www.bobistheoilguy.com swear by it.

It does make sense, this powerful magnet can catch iron particles that are much smaller then any filter can catch.

Snake oil? meh.

I do believe the product works, but if it's worth the money or not is the question.

There's pictures on BITOG of guys cutting the filter open and there's a ton of super fine iron where they mounted the magnet. This is on the filtered side!

The magnets used are several times more powerful then the magnets we have in our diffs. I know I have 4(2 bars and 2 plugs) in my diffs.

That is so convincing I tell you. There is no way they would ever take the filter off and throw some metal shavings in it before they took the picture, would they?

Newsflash, if there is that much metallic material in the oil, I don't care how good a magnet you use, it is too late. Besides, most engines I have dealt with have a magnetic drain plug, which would catch it before it got to the filter.

BTW, you wouldn't happen to own a Turbo 3000 Darth Vader by chance?

It is, also there is another guy running the same type of magnet, but just a regular magnet, not this fancy unit. He reports the same results at a much cheaper price. I'll probably go that route. What I'm asking here is whether or not this unit is cost-effective. Since I've found a much more cost-effective route, we'll go that way.

And arrange it in a perfect line to where the magnets were? The stuff is so fine, it would be impossible to do that. Ever cleaned off the magnets in your diff? it's a bitch.

Wrong on both counts, I have a magnetic drain plug, and it NEVER catches anything. Yet my used oil analysis shows iron. The magnets in drain plugs are very weak, they have to be, otherwise you'd never get that plug off or on!

The magnet catching it on the filtered side is the key point here. This means that the stuff the magnet is catching is below ~20 microns.

I'm actually considering calling Kevin Rutherford(XM channel 171 "trucking business and beyond" check out his webpage www.kevinonxm.com) and he pushes the turbo 3000 because of advertising money obviously.

I'll tell him I'll buy a turbo 3000 on one condition, they get the unit ASE tested.

I'd love to see the response.

I run a FilterMag on both my vehicles. Does it work?? Yes it does. Is the info on BITOG a bunch of BS....no. If you are familar with the BITOG site you would know that the members are fanatical about providing accurate, unbiased information. Yes, I am a member in case you are wondering.

I figure that using it cannot hurt anything, so why not use it.

Good luck!
