What year?
It's always a CAT for me, but i've been advised, by CAT dealer folks, not to buy 2007 CAT, and wait at least a year, too many complications...

There is to many emission "improvments" on it, and too many things, could go wrong...not quiet tested yet!

that always seems to happen when they raise emission standards

Same as ALL of the '07 engines... DPFs, new technology. The new 07 CATs have a spark plug, ignition coil, and fuel injector in the exhaust system. The DPF is an oxidation catalyst as well as a particulate trap. An electronic exhaust system with inlet and outlet pressure and temperature sensors to trigger catalyst regeneration.

Oh, and a closed crankcase, too... no more draft tubes.
