I am new to this truck and would like some info. We just had it serviced at Petro-bill was right about $200. Oil, oil filter, fuel filter and grease. I did the water filter at home later.
This was the 1st oil change, and i didnt have anywhere to do it, so i had them do it. I would now like to do it myself, save about $100, and just have a good Freightliner shop do a once over a few times a year or so. It has a Cummins n14 plus with a 10 speed Rockwell Trans. Counting oil filter, I would like oil capacity and trans oil capacity also.

Trans is around 4 gallons, you will need a pump to pump it in, there is NO dipstick or fill tube.
Better off getting it done at the truckstop/ or truck shop. Don't forget you have oil in the rear ends too, 4 gallons in the front and around 2 1/2 in the rear, these are approximate capacities, if your not SURE how to do it, leave it to a pro, a screw up can cost BIG, REAL BIG.

Ive done it before, no problems and have everything I need. But I have to work outside, and didnt feel like laying in the mud to do so. I sure wish I had a book with this thing, it would save me countless questions. Maybe Ill go buy one.
The oil in the rears look good and clean. Thanks for your help. Now if I can find what type of fluid it takes, whether its a motor oil based fluid, or something like a 50wt Tranny oil.

I used to to do my own services at home, but found it to be well worth the extra $100 saved to have it all done on the road. The key here is to keep an eye on the joker doing it, to make sure it's done properly.
I almost always use Speedco, if for nothing else I use the oil testing done on site. I always go down in the pit to inspect the driveline. Heckoflot easier than at home in the driveway. |
