Hey guys, how close do you need to live to a terminal? I dont mind being gone for the week but would like a few days off on the weekend or be gone on the weekend and off during the week. Dosnt matter to me either way. Ultimately I would like a local job and to live like a human being for a change.

I dont think theres really a mileage limit. I know some people that live over 150 miles from their terminal. Just have to be willing to drive. I couldnt do it, I know after driving all day I dont even want to drive the 30 mins home.

How long are you gone? If I was going out for a 4-5 days and coming home for my time off that wouldnt be too bad

I was running a day cab, so I was home everyday. Ive just moved into a sleeper but Ill only be out one night maybe two times a week at this point. Superior is good at getting you home when your in the system. 5-7 usually unless you feel like you want to keep going.

I just found out today (this afternoon) that the outfit I am leased to has lost the Exxon account...to Superior Carriers and 3 others. Superior is supposed to get 50% according to my unhappy terminal manager.

Don't know how much Superior gets for sure...but if it is true (I read the company alert), you all are about to get seriously (maybe--sorta) busy out of Houston, Baton Rouge and NJ.

Quality Carriers got Los Angeles(they already had that).

That sounds like it should help. Last time I was in Pasadena at the terminal there were so many drivers waiting for loads the company hotel was full. They finally sent me to Sulfer La after sitting for a day and a half.

The Exxon account is not blazing money...it is steady though.

All indications I have heard is yes , on the QC thing but it is still in the talks getting equipment etc.. but from what I have heard should be done soon .. but from what I heard the other day wont be getting all 93 lanes but bid on about 60% of the business.

This is here say so far but heard management throwing it around a little also .

Hey Guys just an update on where I am at. I got my letter from TSA and can get my Haz-Mat back. WOOO HOOOO. Didn't take as long as I thought it would. Less then 2 weeks. I will go one day this week and get my DL renewed and have all my endorsements and be ready to go. This week was a Crap week in my job and my blood pressure got high at management more then once over there dumb crap and some of there acusations toward a few of us. Time to get out of there. But this made me feel like things are looking up. Well I have vented so to speak and feel better now LMAO. Later all,:clap: Im Out

It may not be an underbid situation. We got a new shipper out of Salutias. They used to use QC but the continuous late pick up and late deliveries was the reason for us getting the shipper. I've met a couple of QC drivers and were pretty good guys but they didn't seem to give a two hsits about the IC they were driving for.

I saw that on the travel order and thought about the little pills that kept you up all night back in the 70's. Turned out to be a nasty place to spend about 18 hours. 2 inch hose up 3 stories to the tank. Got a workout pulling my feet out of the mud with every step though. Glad I washed my truck 2 days ago.

Is Transport Service and Superior Carries the same company?? i see these trucks sometimes on I-95 but i seen a whole bunch on my way to Bristol VA/TN last week up and down I-81..

Just want to add some insight in case you are considering TRANSPORT SERVICES

They are being sued by the RAILROAD which one I am not sure but a driver of theirs in MEMPHIS blew by some tracks on HARBOR ROAD in MEMPHIS and derailed a train . Driver was over hours (from what I was told) and was ticketed for RECKLESS DRIVING and DRIVER NEGLIOGANCE.

TRANSPORT SERVICES filed bankruptcy and was sold out of bankruptcy to another company which name slips my mind . But the names on the truck will still say TRANSPORT SERVICES until like 6 more months then they will be changing the name

They have high turnover and always have a help wanted sign outside the terminal as they are right next door to us (SUPERIOR CARRIERS) terminal 50 in MEMPHIS ..

Just be advised if you are thinking of jumping in bed with them of the situation before you jump in .

Damn man, looks almost as bad as Springfields yard the other night... ;)

Last time I was there it was nothing but snow turned to ice. Must have melted. This was strange. The ground underneath was hard. There was just this 12 inches of coal dust mixed with water. My guess is that the gravel underneath didn't drain as well due to the dust filling the spaces between and this was a low spot. They had a bobcat come in and scrape away some of it near the valves on the trailer and that helped some. Couldn't do much around the cab though.

It was deep enough to cover the top of my boots with every step. When the 2 inch hose filled with product it sank into the muck and almost disappeared. Big mess. Three compartment tank unloading into 2 different pipes. 60 feet of hose both times. Fortunately the second place wasn't as deep in the muck. It took 10 hours to empty the trailer and by then my 14 was shot so I slept 8 hours at the plant.

not a good load guess you gotta take the good with the bad though ;)

Black beauty is a processed coal slag used as an abrasive (shot blasting). Stuff creates a mess. Another really messy substance is carbon black - like the crap in your toner cartridge.

I pulled a few ROLLOFF trucks to a landfill a time or 2 with CARBON BLACK from a TIRE PLANT messy stuff...:eek1:

Any of you guys ever handled a product called Silica Fume ? It's a by-product from the extraction of aluminum, and is used in batching concrete to obtain different grades. Now that stuff can be highly temperamental !!

Update to above update lol, Talked to Ken @ Atlanta terminal and he told me they were not needing drivers at this time. The economy slow down was hurting them but to call him back in about a month and see where they were at then. Said he would go ahead and look over my app and see what it looked like, but to keep in touch. Do you guys think it would be to much to call every week :rofl: LOL dont wanna make him mad . Seemed to be a super nice guy. well I will keep you all updated and see what goes on from there. Gotta find me a job tho before I go crazy at this one. Im Out

Hey Ky thanks for the info that was what i needed to know. If I can think of anything else I will let yall know. As for the time to respond I understand ya gotta keep the wheels moving. As for me got 3 hrs monday 9 tues. a layoff for wed-thur. ask to come in today fri. went in worked or sit around 3 hours and sent home. didnt wanna mess my layoff time up.(i was told that) Couldnt understand why they wanted me to come in at all. Got a company safety meeting in the morning for around 4 hours. I know how that will go. LOL well be safe and thanks for info. Im out

Hey Springfield yard isn't that clean. Don't get anyones expectations up thinking they are going to stay clean when they come to Springfield. We don't even get coffee anymore do you really think they are going to plow or grade the yard. hahaha! Atleast they keep us busy.

They had coffee the other day when I was there. It just took a while to figure out that individual cup coffee maker.

The coffee maker is a piece of pie, I felt more like an ass asking for coffee. I mean seriously come on...

When I was there they put the box just inside the dispatch window. I think they were tired of drivers stocking up coffee supplies for in truck coffee makers with those individual cup packages hence the tighter security. Management has to do something to justify their existence you know?

Did any of you SUPERIOR Drivers happen to run hwy 441 up thru NC out of Ga today.(2-26). If so I passed ya and didnt know it. Just thought I would ask, and say hello. :)

I guess is what happened is when they put out some coffee, the box was gone in a couple of hrs. I don't see why they just don't make it by the pot like the other terminals. I know they are not hurting to where coffee is an issue. They know it's not the drivers, cuz there weren't any around..

Hey Ky- Guess you were in the Augusta yard when I was there. I must have just missed you. There were a couple of trucks gone when I woke up. I'm in 3320. Took a load to P&G but from what Chris said it's not going to last long.
