Well a big company might be the way to go, since not a whole freight comes OUT of Florida.

CFI is not a mega-carrier, though they have been bought by Con-Way, but they are slated to remain a truck load carrier. They hire out of FL. They are all dry van, pay practical miles, and have their upsides.

Beyond that....and other than the mega-carriers, you might be faced with primarily working for a reefer company hauling produce out of FL and meat and other food back down there. If you like reefer work...you'll find plenty to get with.

if it is any company associated with Comcar, run like the wind. the equipment is lame, the pay sucks. they are ok to start with for the first year after going to their driving school, but after that you can find a job driving a grocery cart in Publix will pay more than Comcar!!!!

That, unfortunately, is the truth. I drove for CTL (their chemical tanker division) awhile ago.....a long while ago, and their pay is still the same. No raises in years. Still paying HHG miles to boot. The health insurance is/was still very expensive for a family. As a "starter" company they may be ok, but beyond that....its a subsistence living.

There is a billboard over on I-10 near Jacksonville advertising for a small reefer company based in Fla.

I will record the name of them next time I am over that way.
(have misplaced the notes I took a while back)

They are reefer that runs south eastern only...avg 2200 miles per week

and pays .47 per mile.
