Well a big company might be the way to go, since not a whole freight comes OUT of Florida. |
CFI is not a mega-carrier, though they have been bought by Con-Way, but they are slated to remain a truck load carrier. They hire out of FL. They are all dry van, pay practical miles, and have their upsides.
Beyond that....and other than the mega-carriers, you might be faced with primarily working for a reefer company hauling produce out of FL and meat and other food back down there. If you like reefer work...you'll find plenty to get with. |
if it is any company associated with Comcar, run like the wind. the equipment is lame, the pay sucks. they are ok to start with for the first year after going to their driving school, but after that you can find a job driving a grocery cart in Publix will pay more than Comcar!!!!

May Trucking has a terminal in Pensecola. they have about a 1000 trucks all with 13 spd transmissions. oyud have to do 48 reefer though
|
There is a billboard over on I-10 near Jacksonville advertising for a small reefer company based in Fla.
I will record the name of them next time I am over that way. (have misplaced the notes I took a while back) They are reefer that runs south eastern only...avg 2200 miles per week and pays .47 per mile. |

You can also try LCT out of Okahumpka, haul alot of folage and maybe Florida Food Tankers, I think the oldest orange juice hauler in FL. They are in Lake Wales.
Sorry can't tell you much about the pay or any other details. |
I would go with Con-way/CFI out of that state. Con-way always has frieght going there and leaving.
|
you are full of it piece! As a solo Florida had very little coming out of Florida at CFI. Quit trying to recruit and tell the truth for once. Forget about your little recruiting contest. We get some good freight going into Florida but coming out can be a problem. I have yet to hear of Con Way freight coming out. As a team we do get some freight coming out but usually it is a deadhead to Bama or Georgia. As a solo I restarted there quite a bit. Not that Florida is a bad place to restart but I haven't found a place on Hwy 1 yet that allows big truck parking on the beach. I am still looking into that one though.

Try DTL in Sanford FL. They run NE and back to FL....you are home most weekends.

World, I totally agree. Piece always barges into a thread, tells everyone about his recruiting site and hardly ever contributes anything positive to the topic. All in the name of a Yukon Contest... |
Try Trailerbridge, based in Jacksonville practically across from Jaxport. They haul containers from all over back here to load on a barge for Puerto Rico.My Dh makes about 2800 miles a week, home weekends and good benefits.

I Agree. They are down the street from us in Sanford, have nice trucks and the phone number is (407) 330-3980 or 1-800-991-9940 |
Most solos I talk to always sit in florida. The power report always says there excess trucks in FL, GA. All peice cares about is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

reply
I just got hired in at HEYL Zephyrhills terminal
They are saying I will do 10.000 to 12.500 miles a month pay is 35 cpm. trucks are stripped down 04-07 volvo"s and frtlnr columbias.medical is same anywhere you go. Terminal is brand new. |
Not to be "argumentative", but as one who lives in FL....and drove for CFI, I can honestly say that after my time off at home.... I never waited long to get a load out of the state.
In truth, only on one occasion did I wait a day for a load. I normally got assigned a load within an hour or two of going on the board. Sometimes I was deadheaded out of the state to as far away as SC. Did I care? NO! I got paid the same empty or loaded. They could have deadheaded me to Maine, Minnesota, or California.... and it wouldn't have bothered me a bit. I have seen more than just a few Red Racers in FL....more than in years past. So their freight base has to have improved there. If they don't have a load going out right away....its alot like being "anywhere". You use the time to reset, rest, shop...or whatever. Right? 8) |
Cypress Truck Lines, their main office is in Jacksonville. They are a flatbed company.Haven't had any experience with them. The only other thing that comes to mind is driving a tram at Disneyworld. That way you always have something to haul.Haul people to the parking lot, pick up a back haul of people to the front gate.No log books.

I been sitting here in a lot full of loaded trailers for 2 days and not moved except to ride down and get some Chinese food. Trucking is goofy Overall mass unhappiness |
Yeah

I would suggest Shaffer out of Florida, reefer division for Crete. It's easy to get into Florida with dry freight but hard to get out unless your pulling a refidgerated unit. Shaffer hauls for Minute Maid so would not be a big problem getting out. Also they have SE regional come available at times as well, when it does they offer it to there OTR guys and gals.
