Carter, try to hang in there as long as you can bud. Things are not better elsewhere not matter what your hearing, even local is crap right now unless you would rather sit at home not being paid instead of in Bum F-ing Egypt which I wouldn't fault you for that. I can tell you I saw 3 TMC trucks today between Richmond and Fredericksburg, VA, 2 were MT, so your not the only one getting some good bounce time. Over the last 2 weeks, I have seen several with loads of rebar rolling East on Rt. 3 towards 301. They might get you a load, but once you deliver, your going ot sit or drive around finding a load because there is nothing out there just like Von said. Instead of having 100 loads worth of freight amongst 80 trucks, it's the total opposite, you have 100 trucks fighting to get 1 of only 20 loads. Instead of the driver getting the screw by the company lowballing like crazy just to keep you guys moving with cheap freight, they would rather pay you layover which is probably more than you would have made had they lowballed. Remember, the lower they go on the hauling prices, the less money they make also. Think of it this way, your getting paid to drive around the countryside and not having to throw straps or chains. Yes it sucks but it's better than sitting at home getting unemployment right now or not getting anything at all.

well you are welcome to run my truck as hard as you can, I will welcome the challenge. in fact the occasional $3000+ week is the only thing keeping my attitude up.
the internal operations of the company do not concern me. what concerns me is that it's Thursday and I have hauled 2 loads this week and am on track to lay over a 2nd night after bouncing 500 miles. things are bad if I look forward to $100 layover pay. I am not the type to threaten to quit, at least not to my fleet manager. if things do not pick up by summer, again, it will be a business decision. nothing personal, but I'd sleep better at night working for a company that actually has work for me to do. |

Must have your head in the clouds. TMC not lowballing freight?!?! TMC has always lowballed freight. Just spoke with a current TMC driver, and he was loading a load from NE PA to Verona WI, a little over 900 loaded miles, showed his qualcomm $780-something. He only had the load to Hubbard OH where it was swapped out. Here is the problem. For years TMC really only had price to bargain with. With such a large amount of trucks, they were more in a position to do so. If they clear $10 profit each day on 3,000 trucks thats $30,000...not too shabby after all bills are paid and thats only if each one only makes 10 bucks...you see the point. Now so many companies are jumping on whatever they can for whatever price they can. Which takes TMC's "edge" away. Thats the reality. Getting the load there on time and undamaged is not a bargaining tool...its pretty much a given common practice. I also believe that generalized carriers are getting a backseat to some specialized carriers. I see this at a local plant. Sure the Meltons, TMC's and Westerns, etc are pulling out of there, but once in a blue moon. Instead the "specialized" carrier-who has pulled day in and day out from there, are now given some of the other lanes to keep their trucks going. Dont think its not happening. Also I disagree with any mention of Annett racing. If this were a small company and thi ngs were not being paid because jr has a habit, thats one thing, however most of you complaining about the race car, would be in not different position otherwise. The race car isnt gonna make rates higher, its not gonna get more or less freight on the trailer, etc Why do you care? Harold does have his own money and his own paycheck that he has make over the years, and if he chooses to spend it on a racecar so be it. You and I are allowed to do the same. Your gripe is more with rich vs poor, and if you want the big money toys, get the big $$ job and pay for them. Things like this never look good in most employees eyes because they are unable to see a difference. Work is slow for us. However me and my wife are adding onto our house. Other drivers are talking and whining, etc because "He must get better paying freight" Not for the fact that they are ignorant and dont realize that when they pee away a paycheck each week at the bar, we put some aside each week, and now can pay for an addition. As much as I disagree with some TMC practices, I feel anyone should have the abaility to buy whatever they want, for however much they want. When you start seeing a difference in your paycheck BECAUSE of the boss's spending habits, then complain. |
Actually your head may be in the clouds more than mine steelhauler. You totally missed the point being made. By your own statement, that driver would be making a little over what his total layover pay for that 2 day run would be if he ran it all the way. You get what, $100 a day for layover, if he was at say 28% of that $780 load, he would see $218.40 out of it whereas layover would have only net him $200 even. So no, they aren't lowballing to where your making less than what layover pay would be if you just sat still. Yes it sucks they had him swap out but that wasn't what we were discussing and I agree with the rest of your post.

$1800 was gross revenue to the truck? WOW!

Are the long haul drivers doing any better, or are they sitting to?

Saw a TMC truck pass thru home pulling 3 boats behind it just an hour ago. They are definitely trying to get the loads as best they can if they are now yanking boat trailers around. Just like everyone else, they are taking what they can get.

Those are dedicated boat haulers. It is a new account. |
I heard u guys lost your ez pass...See how many times you dont get reimbursed for those tolls. They are smart. Just as usual there will be some that slip through the cracks, transflo never made it, etc etc.

Well I picked up at Ball container for Pepsi off I- 35 just north of TMC's Des Moines , IA yard over holiday week end ,and on my way back down I-35 I noticed the yard was packed with trucks ...I hardly doubt these were all trucks parked there with the drivers just home for the holiday , And I doubt these were new trucks just awaiting to have Qualcomms and decals installed before assigned , So my guess is TMC has lack of freight issues and is slowly pulling their trucks from the road as drivers quit or get terminated .
