Re: 5 weeks done

They were on week 4 according to his post! Thus, by then, they should have been at full team status. Used to be, weeks 1 and 2 with newbs - trainer in the jump seat (at least on paper), 3 partial, 4 and 5 trainers had the option to go full team, depending the level of the student!

What was he doing in the sleeper? Hopefully not asleep, if he was asleep someone in Des Moines needs to know unless you were running as a team at that point and you both felt good about your control of the truck. I have never been a fan of a trainer in the bunk asleep and this is a perfect reason why, you never know when a hairy situation is going to arise on a new driver and they may need your quick guidance to save both of you. Good job on saving it yourself and just so you know, might be bad batch of tires. Saw a TMC truck about a week and a half ago sitting just south of the DC Beltway with a left front gone.

Yea, We were on full team status. This happened about 4 in the morning. It was kinda funny how i was the one who always drove all night, so my sleep schedule was completely screwed, with having to load and unload and try to get my sleep in, cause all of this was done while I was on line 2. Then i had to try to get as much sleep as possible before he decided it was my turn to drive so he could go back and watch tv. I think he actually spent maybe 2 hours total in the jump seat while I drove. He was up there on day one realized i could drive ok and then he disappeared.

My orientation got switched to Columbia, SC instead of Des Moines. Catch the bus tonight and start orientation on Mon. Thanks terrylamar for recommending what to bring (and what not to). I haven't smoked grass in years so I'm not worried about that.

Just need to pick up an atlas today for the training. I'm scheduled for one week orientation and 4 weeks training. It's been 8 months since I've driven so I was told that's the reason for the 4 wks. I'm hoping maybe it can get shortened to 2 wks. after the evaluation next week. Who knows, they may tell me I need 5 wks. Just kidding and I hope not.

Slo4sho it sounds like you had a good attitude for your training and did well given some of the issues that arose. Congratulations and good luck.

"Stay off the grass." = Don't walk on the manicured lawn. Not don't smoke pot, which if you do, I hope you get caught.

Sounds like he was lazy and stupid. Although technically when on team status you only need to shut the truck down 2 hrs per day, it is totally stupid to push two drivers that much. The truck should be totally shut down 6 hrs per day. With naps and such, that isn't so bad a day.

Oouch, Columbia!!!!

Just kiddin, I think!

Not many of us oriented at Columbia - not sure what the ground rules are there - and if the orientation location is anything like the shop - there is no grass! :-(

Good Luck!

I had an an offer the other out of the blue by a former Martial Arts Instructor. He want to give me one of his schools in Texas. I don't know any details, but is something I will consider. It would provide motivation to get back into shape. I have been thinking about starting Martial Arts again, maybe it is karma!

Well Terry we would be sad to see you leave TMC, but I know you can succeed in whatever you tackle. Good luck.

I am seeing some TMC trucks here lately but all delivering and headed to the lumber yard

We are doing more and more sheetrock into both Houston and LA. National Gyp has a plant in NO, La area. Us and Maverick do alot of that sheetrock to the stores and such. As far as freight into Houston, we have 80+ loads per day into Houston area. Less than half of that comes from Sweetwater area.

I personally run Houston to west Texas and back. For me it's profitable enough that I am in the process of buying a truck to lease onto the company and continue the same runs that I have been making for 2 years.
Many linehaulers can even tell you that you can get stuck in Texas for weeks at a time.

I am afraid that Terry is correct about the consequences. It MAY help your case if you call safety BEFORE they read the truck at service and find out. I think they are more forgiving if you at least knew you did something wrong rather than were just blissfully unaware. Anybody else agree?
