Cool Ideal job!

First, let me tell you the short story, how i come up with this tread. The pal of mine, starting a trucking business and complain to me that he could not find a drivers. I've asked him, what he is offering, and after he told me i was quiet a surprised! I'm an O/O with a few decades of experience, and would things a bit different definitely wouldn't miss this opportunity. Yet he is straggling to find drivers, so it's got my curiosity. What do you guys (gals) looking for? What's your deal breaking point? Your ideal company?

Well, first, I'm a local driver. I'd have to be home for at least a full 48 hours after 5 days gone if I moved to an OTR gig. I'd also have to see my current pay at least matched to even think of the opportunity, $36k. In reality, you'd have to get me the miles with pay to see at least $40-45k for me to jump on board while also getting my full 48 hours home. At this time, health insurance is a non starter for me, wife has that covered. I also don't want worn out POS equipment. My current truck isn't worn out IMO but it is under kill for the job its asked to do. Give me a truck that will get the job done, preferably with an APU on board also.

I feel about the same as Ford, I was offered a position recently and the pay sounded real good up to the moment I realized it was on a 1099. Time home, pay.health insurance, IRA match are all deal makers/breakers for me. I'd love to cut my hours down to about 40-50 per week but with the pay I see being offered that's not happen.
I don't care that much about equipment just as long as it's safe and legal and reliable.

Well, you both shooting way below he is offering, still couldn't get a drivers. May be here is a trust issue, it's a start up operation, but personally i didn't see a huge problem here. It's a free country after all. I didn't ask him is it going to be 1099, or W-2 but i'm sure he could be flexible on that, so i'm still scratching my head....

Maybe its the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't true......a lot of places talk a big game in this industry as we know very well. Drivers see the offering and how good it is and call the bluff on it without actually checking it out. Is he looking for certain experience?

I believe you are on to something here. When i've heard his deal, it did sounds too good to be true, but still i'd like to check it out personally. The funny part is, that he doesn't getting too many calls. Few as the matter of fact. And as far as i'm concerned, he is serious about it. That makes me wandering about the reasons. Don't know his requirements about qualifications, but i'm sure it's reasonable.

Yes, what's the location and type of hauling. What are his driver requirements, might find a driver or two from here very interested. How many openings will he have.

Well, I could, but that would be advertisement, no? I'm not involved in his business, at least not yet. So I'm just kind of curious, what's wrong with it? In short it's NJ job, involves car hauling, work every other day, and home every night. 60 grand to start! Shocking, isn't it? That's why I could relate to "too good to be true", but as far as I'm concerned, he is serious.....

Well you guys know me hahaha

I want a w-2, medical benefits, Hourly pay, Overtime after 40, Retirement plan and some vacation after the 1st year.

I know a start up is not going to offer all that. But if i was going to sell my business and be a driver again that is what i want. Im also a local guy. So thats where the hourly pay comes in.

Since your buddy is OTR thats the deal breaker for me lol
