Im new to trucking. I just earned my Class A 10 days ago.
I recently applied to a flat bed company. They claim that 85% of their loads are oversize, just what i want to do. However they are starting me off at 22% of the load. And i know that it will take several months to earn my way up to the big loads and what not im just wondering...... IS THIS A GOOD DEAL?? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It depends upon how they are calculating the pay. If you take the gross revenue of the load (total amount customer pays to move shipment) and then deduct FSC, O/S permits, pilot cars, you then have the revenue that the truck generates. You should get 22% of that number.
I personally think they are throwing you to the wolves. There's no way in hell a new driver should be doing ANY wide loads! Once you learn how to drive and back up then they can ease you into do some wide loads.

This might be one of those company's that nobody ever hears anything about....simply because they never have a need to hire from "Outside". If you have a foot in the door, there is every possibility that you lucked into a lifetime job.
Take everything "One-day at a time". Learn the ropes as THEY want you to learn them. Ask questions every chance you get. If you don't understand a reason for why something is being done a specific way.....ask and learn. Good Luck. You might have found a decent job.

National has been around forever and they move some HUGE chit! You don't stay in the biz as long as they have doing what they do by tearing stuff up. |
